Today’s guest is Tom Dear, a graphic designer and founder of adventure-inspired, Dayebreak Coffee.
Tom has been the lead designer for various NBA activations across Canada, he has proudly worked in a team with Nike, pitching campaigns for shoe and sportswear launches, and he led the rebrand of Saracens Rugby Club – including everything from jerseys to stadium design.
Tom believes that work should be enjoyed not endured, and no matter how experienced you are, you should always seek to learn new skills from experiences that you wouldn’t get from ‘pixel pushing’ behind a laptop. Tom also believes that anti hustle shouldn’t be confused with ‘anti hard work’ or ‘anti risk’ – he’s a risk taker, he says, who always tries to punch above his weight :-)
Despite owning a specialised coffee company, Tom has ‘no preference’ over how he drinks it – as long as it’s hot, freshly ground and has enough for a second cup!
In the episode, Tom refers to Kevin Carroll, a great inspiration of his as creative catalyst when Tom worked at Nike. You’ll find Kevin here: https://kckatalyst.com
