Australian National University vice-chancellor Genevieve Bell has resigned from her position following a tumultuous period marked by redundancies, proposed course closures and allegations of a toxic work culture.

Her resignation came after the ANU Governance Project report found that 96 per cent of the 700 respondents believed the university's governance was not fit for purpose and should be reformed.
