In this episode on the AP Now podcast, Mary Schaeffer is joined by Debra R Richardson, an expert on master vendor file issues. They discuss getting ready for year-end in accounts payable. Before they delve into the topic, Debra tells a little bit about her corporate experience. This clearly establishes why she was invited to this particular episode.

They begin by discussing the big calendar used in many organizations to track all the different tasks done by differing departments to ensure year-end runs smoothly. Debra points out that the after-the-close review of this calendar to see what worked and what didn’t is important.

Debra then explained some of the special year-end tasks that occur in accounts payable. She also explained how she handled the inevitable deluge of invoices (and new vendor setups) that ended up in accounts payable in December. She explained in detail some of the verifications companies should be doing.

At the end of the podcast, she discussed the special issues related to staffing over the year-end and staff vacation times. AP Now hopes Richardson will return for a future episode so we can explore this issue in greater detail.
