This date marks the culmination of the Easter season, celebrated exactly 50 days (inclusive of Easter Sunday) after Easter and commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ, as described in the New Testament. Red is the liturgical color used to represent the tongues of fire associated with the Holy Spirit described in the Bible.
