Content Warning: there’s a heavy mention of violence, political persecution, rape and trauma in this episode.

My name is Pati Morales and I’m a refugee originally from the Republic of Nicaragua. Here’s the story of how that happened.

In part 2 I (Pati) talk about how I ended up in my little tropical corner in the north of Costa Rica. If you ever wondered what it means to be a refugee (politically speaking) wonder no more, listen up ;).

In part 1 I (Pati) cover all the cultural and political context in Nicaragua that led to the protests in 2018, and how I had to escape home.

Beauty lies in the eye of the observer, and in the hands of the artist- and sometimes we claim to be both. One big aspect of our friendship has been our love for art, creating and admiring it. I (Pati) learned a lot from watching Benji work through assignments in art school, to the point of trying art on my own; but art, as anything else in life, is better and funner with friends.

Oh the human brain, capable of so much, yet not that much at all… Benji and I (Pati) may be creative in certain aspects, but in terms of music, we are completely lost. Luckily for us, we know Chey (she/her) and Gabby (he/him), who are incredibly talented in this realm. Join us to hear about their inspirations, creative process, special talents, and dreams in the music industry. You can follow their work at @gibbusa85 and @cheymusicbox on Instagram.

The fall, what a magical time a year, colors exploding everywhere you see, kitchens flood with the smell of coziness and love… and it starts getting cold as heck. Being a native (Pati) to the tropics, living in the “north” was quite a challenge, but that’s when friendship came along. Also, have you ever met someone who’s birthday is literally Halloween? Well, now you do: Benji.

AJR is a band formed by three brothers from New York. Their musical artistry includes a very creative production process, relatable lyrics, and a safe and wholesome vibe you can just feel in each of their songs. In this episode, Pati gets raw and real about how music impacts them and how Benji (without realizing) introduced them to a band that has been part of some of the biggest moments in their life.

You might have heard that your time in college is going to be the best time of your life… and even though we are expecting to have better times to come, we did meet each other in college, so that’s a win I guess. In this episode, Pati and Benji tell various stories from their college days- from free t-shirts to living with roommates, they share their experiences through (almost) four years of liberal arts education.
