Apologetics from the Attic

Here is a sermon preached by Pastor Dave Louis on August 14, 2020 at Crossway Church. He gives his testimony along with talking about the theology of the cross vs. the theology of glory.

In this episode, we launch a new series exploring the relationship between the authority of Scripture and the reality of theological reflection upon the scripture by the historical church and the individual believer. We apply this to the dangers of "solo" scriptura and biblicism which in running rampant online and in evangelicalism.

We continue our series on the topic of Justification by Faith Alone, reading through chapter 3 of Dr. Hodge's book. We talk about the righteousness of Christ.

Have you ever wondered about the relationship between God's sovereignty and free will? In this new episode we begin a series on the topic of Compatibilism. We use Dr. JOHN C. WINGARD JR. as our teacher as we walk through an article he wrote giving a brief overview of the topic.

In this impromptu live episode of AFA, we talk to Derek Murrell, who is having a debate on the topic of Free-Will in two days. We talk about the topic and respond to live questions.

In this episode we continue our study of Justification by Faith Alone as we cover how Christ satisfied the law in our place by becoming a curse for us and being our sacrifice and high priest.

In this episode, I begin a review of Warren McGrew's video entitled "Original Sin: A Doctrine Examined". We focus on avoiding the oversimplification of Church History and Historical Theology.

We continue our study of the Doctrine of Justification by Faith Alone. Dr. Hodge continues to hammer home the fact that the Bible teaches because the law demands perfect obedience, therefore there is no way to be justified by the law. Then we start to discuss how Jesus satisfies the demands of God's Law in our place, and this is the glory and majesty of the Gospel.

In this episode, Dave begins a series where he talks about the doctrine of Justification by Faith Alone. In this first part, we read from Dr. Charles Hodge and talk about how the foundational starting point for a proper understanding of this doctrine is the biblical teaching that the Law of God can only be fulfilled by sinless perfection.

In this episode I open with a few reflections on Independence day 2020, and then I launch into covering Romans chapter 7 in preparation for my debate coming up this Saturday.
