Ruth Ruth is a band that had a very promising career in the early 90's and put out some of my favourite music between 1993 and 1999. In my top five favourite albums is an EP of theirs called 'The Little Death." I suggest that everyone on Earth should pick up this album on iTunes as soon as possible. On this episode we spoke about being a band in the 90's and the challenges of being a band on a major label. In that era, labels were on the constant lookout for the next big thing (that wasn't hair metal). Ruth Ruth's impeccable work ethic and constant touring gained them some success on MTV., but as we all know, labels generally know nothing about what good music is or what the next big trend will be. Welcome to part two of my interview with Spike. Episode 30 featured Spike from a hotel in Las Vegas, but we were cut short by the sketchy internet so we re-scheduled the interview for when Uke-Hunt made their swing through Toronto. We drove around Toronto talking about other cities, hipsters, and came close to clipping a jogger. All in all we had a pretty good time. Spike Slawson is an original member of 'Swingin' Utters' as well as the lead singer of the punk super group 'Me First and the Gimme Gimmes.' His new group 'Uke-Hunt' started as an idea revolving around the name with the song choices, recordings and band coming after. Spike has a unique way of looking at life as well as a deep understanding of music, irony and how both work hand in hand.

I'm very happy to have Chris Hannah on the Podcast!! Chris and I met about 25 years ago when I moved to Winnipeg to join a band.  Chris and I talk about what it's like to be a dad and a musician at the same time.  We talk a little bit about the early days of his band Propaghandhi and how a small thrash band turned into a voice of the many in the early to late 90's.  Propagandhi still puts out records and is currently planning a east coast tour and will be recording a new album some time in the near future.  Thanks Chris for being on the podcast!!

This will the first of two interviews I did with Spike.  Spike is originally from a band call the Swingin Utters.  He then formed a supergroup with Fat Mike (NOFX), Chris Shiflett (Foo Fighters), Joey Cape and Dave Raun (Lagwagon).  Over the past year, Spike has been working with a new band named 'Uke-Hunt'.  He's been touring around and we sit down over a video chat from Las Vegas.  We got cut short but did another interview in my car last week.  Listen to the end to get a taste of the next interview (coming up in another two weeks)

Dennis Jagard is the guitar player/Lead Vocalist in 'Ten Foot Pole' as well as a sound man for artists like Prince and Jimmy Eat World to name a few.

Dennis and I met when our bands shared a tour bus in Europe for 30 days in 2004.  We became fast friends when we both realized that we were band dads in nature and shared the same ethics regarding music.

Hugo and I met for the first time at the Bovine the day we recorded this episode of the podcast.  Hugo is an intricate part of the Montreal music scene and plays in many many bands.  He also one day decided to start his own festival with a partner and has successfully built a really cool reason to travel to Quebec.  In this episode we talk briefly about the scene in Montreal and the DIY ethic of running a festival.

Mike Cado is an educator, session guitar player and a performer that has live his whole life playing and perfecting the guitar.  Mike started playing in clubs at a very early age thanks to his brother that would get him into licensed venues to jam.  Mike teaches guitar at York University under the banner of the Music Department.

Fire in the radio is my new favourite band!!. They are on tour in May with Knapsack and also playing Pouzza fest in Montreal.  I met up with Richard and we talk a bit about the songs on the album, how he writes songs and how the band all chips in together to make it all happen.  They are on Wednesday Records and have big plans and a bright future!!

Bob Wiseman is a talented song writer/ keyboard player.  He moved from Winnipeg to Toronto in the early 80's to attend university learning improvisational piano.  Around the same time, Bob joined Blue Rodeo, a highly respected band from Toronto that won Junos [Canadian Grammys] and sold hundreds of thousands of albums.  The cult classic 'Outskirts' has tons of Bob's trademark Acetone keyboards that gives the album it's defined sound.

Bob and I met when he corrected the facts on Episode 6 of the podcast with Cleave Anderson.  It was a very welcome treat when he agreed to come on the show.  Thanks Bob for the great conversation!!
