In 1971, writer Steve Skeates brought us Aquaman issue 56, the FINAL (at the time) issue of the Sea King's adventures. The story titled "The Creature that Devoured Detroit" ended rather abruptly.

Jump ahead to 1974 and Steve is at Marvel writing issue 72 of the Savage Sub-Mariner, the FINAL issue of Prince Namor's run which continues on from events set up in the Aquaman issue!
