Architecture, Coffee, & Ink

This episode is the conclusion of Central Park, where we go through the entire history, construction, and design of the park. We start off discussing the acquisition of land, and dislocation of 1,600 residents from the area now home to the park, talk about Seneca Village, and then go into the design of the park itself. On this mini-episode, we are focused on introducing some of the key figures behind Central Park, Andrew Jackson Downing, Calvert Vaux, and Frederick Law Olmstead. This episode goes solely into their histories and providing a brief understanding on how they all relate, and came together. This is episode provides the foundation that we are going to be using to when we take a deep into the history on Monday. Andrew Jackson Downing was one of the most pivotal Landscape Architects in America, Calvert Vaux is the relatively unknown partner and Architect, and Frederick Law Olmstead is the Father of American Landscape Architecture. We are kicking off this week with a new episode on Stonehenge! As a break from the New York Arc we have been covering, we take some time to cover this historic monument that has been captivating countless generations. In this episode, we cover the 1500 years of construction, connections between King Arthur, and talk about what is coming next for the monument. We also discuss several of the possible whys.
