Today’s episode is with Glenn T. Griffin, who speaks about writing plays, directing musicals and the mysterious man. To discover who the mysterious man is, you have to listen to this wonderful episode.
Was mentioned : The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told, UNC Charlotte (North Carolina's urban research university), Glenn’s play Sirus, the Libra Theatre Cafe, Les Miserables, Kristian Alexander, the musical Evita, Wilton’s Music Hall, Wuthering Heights, The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron, and the poet Lord Byron.
At its heart, Sirius is a two act theatrical fairy tale; the exploration of the human experience through the eyes of a dog. Sirius isn’t an average dog, though. Some say his father was a stray Alsatian. Others, a Retriever as black as the night sky. Still others don’t believe that any such dog ever existed, and that Sirius’ mother had never been with a male dog in her life. That Sirius was simply… conceived. No matter his patronage, Sirius is born on the same day, at the same second, as his human owner’s daughter, Allison. Being raised together, it’s soon discovered that Sirius can think and reason and speak as any person would, and as he grows older, he questions his place and reason for existing in a world where his place is to sit, stay, and heel at his ‘Master’s’ command. Together, Sirius and Allison explore love, loss, sexuality, family, religion, and physical desire, together, while reevaluating what it means to be an animal… and human.
