Maintenance mode.
I’m guessing it’s not one of your favorite topics.
· It implies already being finished with the decluttering (like that’s happened).
· It suggests there are still problems ahead (depressing thought).
· And it tells you that there’s still more work to do (ugh, already? I just decluttered the whole freaking house!).
But, we do want to keep our decluttering progress….
So that means learning how to deal with the birthdays-and-Christmases influx of new things.
Up for a little challenge?
Here’s what to do about the three most common maintenance mode mistakes.
What you’ll learn:
· Here’s what you don’t do (and all of us have done at least once post-Christmas): Skip the maintenance purge.
· The next problem you’ll face: trying to make all the decisions at once
· One more practice to avoid: Ignoring all those “donate in 5 months” boxes
Go on – take a look around. What’s been sitting around in your house, waiting for you to “get around” to it? Decide today. What serves you best?
Or maybe you’ve got a room that could use some maintaining. It was zen once, but then Christmas happened.
Go ahead and make a first pass. Box up some more for a “decide in 5 months” date. Try out a possible keep-this-not-that arrangement.
And then go live with your decisions for a little while – you can always change something down the road.
Your minimalist life awaits.
You’ve got this!
