Mr. Donkenson Rousseau is a survivor from the horrific earthquake that took place in Haiti back in January 12, 2010.  Mr. Rousseau is a registered nurse . Most of his experiences have been in Psychiatric, Telemetry, and intensive care. He has been working in the mental health field for the past 10 years. He is currently in his senior year of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Nova Southern University.

She graduated from West Coast University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She is a Medical Surgical Nurse that specializes in working in fast paced acute care with wide range of medical conditions such as patients with chronic medical conditions, those recovering from surgical procedures, and patients requiring acute care for various illnesses or injuries. She is currently enrolled into a Nurse Practitioner program at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) in the pursuit of becoming an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.

Join us with a conversation with Attorney Aaron Karger. Mr. Karger is the founding and managing partner of Law Office of Aaron A. Karger, P.A. Mr. Karger was born in Long Prairie, Minnesota and raised in Bemidji, Minnesota. Mr. Karger graduated from the University of Minnesota where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, was a member of the Phi Sigma Theta National Honor Society and received a minor degree in business management from the affiliated Carlson School of Management. Mr. Karger received his Juris Doctor from Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad Law Center where he graduated cum laude and earned recognition on the Dean’s List for his academic performance during his second and third years of law school. While in law school, Aaron was a recipient of the Florida Bar Public Service Fellowship and Grant and was awarded a Silver Level membership in the Shepard Broad Law Center’s Pro Bono Honor Program. Mr. Karger concentrates his practice in the areas of personal injury, with an emphasis on negligent security cases, as well as personal injuries from intentional torts such as sexual assault and battery. Mr. Karger also handles other more common types of personal injury cases such as automobile accidents, as well as slip/trip and falls. Early in his career, Mr. Karger worked for the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office where he served as an Assistant State Attorney. As a prosecutor, Aaron argued dozens of motions including motion practice and oral argument at the appellate level, as well as tried multiple bench and jury trials to verdict. Thereafter, Aaron began his career in private practice working for a boutique law firm where he litigated personal injury and commercial and real estate litigation matters. Aaron also has a significant background in real estate sales, management and development. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Karger worked as a sales director for a large real estate development group where he oversaw lending, construction, sales and closing coordination. Mr. Karger is an active member of Dade Legal Aid where he routinely accepts Pro Bono cases through the Put Something Back Program.

The month of May is time to raise awareness for those living with mental health issues and to help reduce the stigma around mental health. This month was established in 1949 to increase awareness of the importance of mental health and to celebrate recovery from mental illness. Mental health is essential for a person's overall health. Today's guests are all licensed clinicians.

Professor Nicolas André: BA (1992), State University of Haiti, Haiti; MA (2008) and post MA semesters (2009), Indiana University, USA; EdD (in progress) is currently the Haitian Creole program coordinator, Haitian Creole, French instructor, and Haitian Studies Certificate Director at FIU (Florida International University). He started teaching Haitian Creole at FIU in August 2010. He has served as a research assistant at Indiana University (2001, 2002, and 2005), and has taught Haitian Creole at Indiana University from 2006-2009. He has previously taught Haitian Creole for foreigners, Creole Linguistics, and French in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He was head of the Service for Research on Haitian Creole at the State Secretariat of Literacy (1995-1997).

He also served as lexicographer for the Haitian Creole-French/French-Haitian Creole school bilingual dictionary by Editions Haïtiennes (Deschamps). He is assistant editor of the Haitian Creole-English Bilingual Dictionary (2007: Indiana University). Other publications in which André has collaborated include: Pen nan boutèy diven nan panyen banbou, liv I & II (2002: Fondasyon Konesans ak Libète), Dwa moun pou tout moun (1998: OAS/UN International Civilian Mission), and Bay mo yo lapawòl (1998: OAS/UN International Civilian Mission), and Demokrasi pou tout moun (2007: USAID, Haiti). He published his first French novel Qui trop embrase mal éteint in 2011. He has published several articles within a multidisciplinary collaboration setting at FIU.

He has been awarded a seed grant funding as co-principal investigator. He is a founding member of the Haitian Creole Academy, and member of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, member of the Florida Education Association, the National Education Association, and the Haitian Studies Association.

Ellianna A. Dorvil is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with over 17 years of experience in the human services industry, working with diverse client populations in various capacities and settings. Ellianna is currently the Shelter Administrator, with Broward Partnership, where she oversees the day-to-day administrative, clinical, and operational functions of a 268-emergency bed shelter, day respite center and two outreach programs - prevention and medical services. Ellianna’s has successfully managed various supportive/stabilization programs including case management, behavioral health, medical clinic, workforce and offsite housing programs including permanent supportive housing, rapid rehousing, and housing navigation. Ellianna also has experience in database management and spearheading the transition from paper files to electronic health record systems.

Ellianna possesses great executive leadership skills, foresight and a passion for mentoring and helping others in the area of professional and personal development. Ellianna’s administrative experience and clinical background present a unique perspective in her career and has proven to be instrumental in its success.

When she’s not advocating for others, Ellianna enjoys spending time with her husband and their children, attending sport activities, family dates, or simply lounging in the backyard as Kompa and Soca blast from the speaker.
