Arise and Abide

Reading from Revelation 3:1-6 (NLT) ~The Message to the Church in Sardis~ Scripture reading followed by discussion. Gaining a reputation from the praises of people instead of Jesus’ standards. The loving heart of service. Dying to our own agenda so Christ’s love can be expressed through us. The parable of the sower, the parable of the lamps. Keeping our eyes on Jesus. Being announced before the Father.

Reading from Revelation 2:18-29 (NLT) ~The Message to the Church in Thyatira~ Scripture reading followed by discussion. Jesus identifying Himself with different aspects of His character to the different churches. The complaint being similarly tied to sexual sins and idolatry. The praise and encouragement for showing love and growth in becoming more like Christ but sin has still slipped in.

Reading from Revelation 2:12-17 (NLT) ~The Message to the Church in Pergamum~ Scripture reading followed by discussion. The sharp two-edged sword that comes form Jesus mouth is His word of Truth. The invitation and challenge in Jesus words. The slippery slope of sin. Food scarified to idols is nothing compared to Jesus, our Bread of Life.

Reading from Revelation 2:8-11 (NLT) ~The Message to the Church in Smyrna~ Scripture reading followed by discussion. They are poor but they are rich. Money does not offer lasting peace or security. Remaining faithful even when facing death for the crown of life. Jesus holds the key to death and the grave. Temporary residents have temporary sufferings.

Reading from Revelation 1:1-20 (NLT) ~Prologue, John’s Greetings to the Seven Churches, Vision of the Son of Man ~ Scripture reading followed by discussion. The past, present, and future of God’s presence. Keeping our chin up and eyes on the heavens. Not needing to fear because Jesus holds the keys to death.

Reading from 3rd John 1:1-15 (NLT) ~Greetings, Caring for the Lord’s Workers, Conclusion ~ Scripture reading followed by discussion. Leaders surrendering to Christ’s lead and not demanding or loving positions of leadership. A father’s heart for their children. Living in fear or living in faith that God is in control. Being God’s children.

Reading from 2nd John 1:1-13 (NLT) ~Greetings, Living in the Truth, Conclusion ~ Scripture reading followed by discussion. The reconciliation of humanity to God, brought about by God, despite the fact that humanity turned its back on God. The greatest commandment and those that follow, loving God and loving people. Living in loving patience while keeping our feet firmly fixed in the truth of Christ.

Reading from 1st John 5:13-21 (NLT) ~Conclusion ~ Scripture reading followed by discussion. God likes to give us good things. He hears us when we ask for the things that please Him. The heart of the Father that forgives in the face of the greatest losses and offences so forgiveness can be achieved. God wants to hear from us. God wants us to surrender all.

Reading from 1st John 5:1-12 (NLT) ~Faith in the Son of God ~ Scripture reading followed by discussion looking at the victory over sin and the enemy achieved by Jesus and lived in through faith in Him.
