Josh shared his experiences of teaching is Uzbekistan. We discussed the differences between his first and second semester at the world languages Institue. We both shared our experiences with how we’re working on self-care to be able to teach more effectively, but also not only think about teaching all the time. He shared the benefits and drawbacks of living in an enclave neighborhood with numerous foreigners, but hoping to integrate more with the locals as well. We also shared our most effective lessons with each other.

Wisdom from Armenia

This Interview with Greg gave an overview of what life is like for an ex-pat living in Burma. He’s there for a second year as an English Language Fellow . He has worked in Morocco, South Korea as well as China in the past. He shared some of his insights in terms of what kind of teaching he’s been doing both in the cities as well as areas. Some of the challenges faced with limited resources. As well as the experience of his wife, in country in terms of how she’s been able to integrate. An insightful look into Burma, a country very few foreigners have been able to visit until recently.

Beth is a fellow teacher Hungry. She’s had experience in the Ohio school system, working with adults as well as children. We discussed how to work with students who have diverse needs. Also the impact of technology has on students and adults ability to focus in an overstimulated world. We also reflected on our personal experiences of having ADHD and ADD and how we’ve been able to compensate by turning our weaknesses into strengths. Similar to what we do for our students everyday in the classroom.

This interview was with the English Language Fellow Andre Boyer, a teacher with over 20 years of experience. He shares numerous insights about how to teach students in a way that inspires and motivates them. He’s a teacher trainer and has worked in universities, primary and secondary schools in numerous countries. He shared various nuggets of wisdom that apply both in the classroom as well as in the class of life! A teacher should always be a life long self- reflective learner and communicator!

This interview was a discussion with Saada, about her experiences over the past two years working in Bahrain. Both positive and sometimes trying moments were shared. We reflected on how we cannot change the way educational system function, we can only give our positive suggestions and energy.

This conversation with Amy and Dan describe the life of moving to South Africa with a partner, activities they do for fun there, a description of the Nal’ibali literacy program, and other multi literacy teaching activities in Amy’s class.

Karen Hart is a specialist in developing culturally relevant materials that are engaging for the Deaf students. She works both in South African cities and in rural areas, as well as in various countries from India to Pakistan to the United Arab Emirates to New Zealand. Helping schools make more appropriate curriculum materials for Deaf students learning needs. She shared her experiences and some insights that would help me to be able to create similar materials for the students and teachers I’ll be working with here in Mauritius.
