The city of Los Angeles is planning to put up a 2.3-million dollar iron fence around MacArthur Park, aiming to make the park safer and reduce crime. We asked locals at the park to ask if they think a fence will be enough.

Hurricane Melissa swept through the Island of Jamaica yesterday. The powerful storm has continued on through the Caribbean and parts of Cuba, causing damage to homes and infrastructure. Through the chaos, Jamaican diasporas in the U.S. are finding ways to keep their spirits high and help those affected by the hurricane.

Hurricane Melissa made landfall on Jamaica's southwest coast today as a Category 5 storm. It's now a Category 4, but that's still a monster storm; wind speeds are 160 miles per hour. Bridges and roads across the country are flooded. There are widespread outages as winds bring down power lines.

We spoke with Darrin Greaves and Gaelle Jean-Pierre. They are juniors and co-presidents of USC's Caribbean Student Association and both have family currently in Jamaica.

Recent budget cuts have affected USC campuswide. Students and staff have expressed safety concerns as the Department of Public Safety, or DPS, has let go of some of its security ambassadors and administrative staff. DPS Chief Lauretta Hill addressed campus safety and other security issues during a briefing on Monday.
