Assistant Women's Lacrosse Coach Taylor Paige and captain Ashley Grimes '22 join the podcast this week to talk about their experiences participating in the "Future Leaders of the Game: IWLCA Students of Color Coaching Symposium". 

Coach Paige served as a mentor and facilitator for the symposium while Ashley Grimes participated. The symposium featured a diverse group of presenters including BIPOC coaches and administrators tied to lacrosse with the purpose of exposing student-athletes of color to the lacrosse coaching profession and allow social and networking opportunities to the future leaders of lacrosse. 

Ashley Grimes, a third-year lacrosse student-athlete (with sophomore eligibility due to COVID-19 athletic waivers) discussed her history with lacrosse and what it has been like for Shenandoah student-athletes to navigate the current landscape and how covid-19 protocols have limited the team's ability to bond with freshman to help them adjust to college and how they have adapted to the current situation. 

In departmental news, The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced that indoor sports will not allow spectators during the 20-21 spring semester.

Avery White, a men's basketball senior joins the podcast to talk all things basketball with Jet Hayes and Matt McIntosh. 

The three discus MJ or Lebron, favorite movies, music  and hidden talents. 

White from Woodbridge, Virginia and walked-on to the men's team who has evolved into a consistent starting role. He is a force to be reckoned with on the defensive end and gets after the boards.

Assistant Athletics Director for Student Success, Inclusion, and Equity, DeShon Foxx is this week's special guest. Foxx entered his role with Shenandoah on January 4. Get to know DeShon, his vision for the Shenandoah community, and his background that what led him to Winchester, Virginia (0:33)

Department updates: Men's and women's basketball, men's wrestling and the track & field program have all returned to campus and have entered into the testing protocol to start practicing (33:40)

Hornet History: Shenandoah celebrated some anniversaries this week, hiring head coaches Scott Yoder and Zack MacDougall. Head men's basketball coach, Adam Walsh celebrated 100 career wins this time last year and former hoops standout Jeremiah Lawrence '08 inked a professional deal with Landsberg of the German Regionalliga.

Madison Hoilman, a senior from the women's tennis team, joins the podcast for the first of the 2021! Jet Hayes and Matt McIntosh get to know Madison and hear about her experience at Shenandoah and the goals she has to impact campus and her future on and off the court. 

Madison, from Springfield, Va., transferred into Shenandoah from ODAC rival, Bridgewater College, started her tennis career and experienced changing her major all within her first two years at SU. She is going into her third season with the squad after losing out the rest of the spring 2020 season due to the COVID-19 shutdown.

In between sets on the tennis court, Hoilman is a member of the Sports Business Association, both cheerleading teams at Shenandoah (competition and game day), and a member of Shenandoah's RED Team.

Scott and Sydney talk about the changes in game-day operations due to COVID-19 protocol and banter for an hour about our favorite Shenandoah memories from 2020 in a special New Year's Eve edition of Shenandoah Sports Stories.

Junior middle hittter, Peyton Clary gives Jet Hayes '22 and Matt McIntosh '23 a lesson in all things volleyball on Monday morning. 

Clary is a business major from Bracey, Virginia who will be completing her undergraduate degree at the end of the '20-'21 school year and complete her forth year of volleyball while pursing an MBA from Shenandoah's School of Business.

Peyton is currently in the middle of testing for a real estate license and is into kickboxing on the side.

Sophomore women's lacrosse player Madison Re joins the podcast today fresh off her holiday shift at UPS. 

Maddie Re, from Bel Air, Maryland,  is in the pre-occupational therapy program and talks about her experience through the recruiting process. 

Matt McIntosh digs deep into the archives to learn about Re and her leadership roles in high school and how that has translated into her collegiate career. 

Maddie serves on the Executive board for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and The Hidden Opponent (THO). 

Re recaps the women's lacrosse spring break '20 trip for the Puerto Rico Clasico lacrosse tournament, ending the season early after going 7-0, and transitioning from high school to college lacrosse.

Shenandoah men's basketball alumni Chris Christensen '11 is our guest this week. Chris currently is a boy's basketball coach for Warwick High School in Lititz, Pa.
