Although he's been on the show before, we asked Mike Hermann to come back and drop more information (as well as an elbow or two) about RetroMania Wrestling. He also tells us about the game coming to IIRcade.
Is Warhorse correctly balanced in RetroMania? And did Colt Cabana get signed to AEW because of his involvement in the game, or because of his 20+ year stellar career? Is it too much of an arcade game? And what are we talking about with jiggling?
Find out when Mike Herman returns to talk about RetroMania Wrestling on Feb 12, 2021. So do subscribe today in order to be the first (and coolest) among your friends to listen to it.
In the meantime, definitely check out Mike's previous appearance on the show - back in episode 75.

Play and How Important it is
This is The Waffling Taylors Raw with Jay, a series of shorter episodes that will be of indefinite length - we're gonna put these out as-and-when. These episodes will cover shorter topics which don't really fit well within the scope of the show or topics that I want to cover in my own way before we bring them up on the show. That's not to say that we won't cover these topics in the main show, but I'd like to take a whack at them here, first.
I can't guarantee that all of these shorter episodes will be as deep or technical as this one. But I wanted to start big.
I've included a whole bunch of references in the show notes for this episode, so it's going to be worth clicking through and reading those show notes - because there are loads of books you can read, and web resources.
How do you feel about play as a salve for a lack of creativity? Do you agree with the findings of Harlow, Deci, and Csikszentmihalyi? Would you like to hear more of these shorter Raw with Jay episodes?

Content Warning
Just the one this week, folks. But it’s a big one: At 01:21:45 AndrewD talks about a very specific record set by an actress by the name of Lisa Sparks. This is a very adult-themed record, so I would recommend skipping this part if you are in a work-like atmosphere, or have little ones around. AndrewD brings it up as part of a silly discussion on how many people could Jay mean in a year.
Listen out for the klaxon telling you when it’s about to begin, and when it will end there’s a chapter marker for the end of it, so you can skip directly over it if you’d like. The whole section ends at 01:22:43, lasting just over a minute.
Please listen responsibly.
Show Notes
we’re back again with another episode of the podcast, and this time we’re finishing what we started in episode 99
here’s a link to that, if you haven’t heard it
by asking our guests what they’re looking forward to this year. In episode 99, we spoke with Stoo Cambridge and The_B, but in this episode, we asked AndrewD and ZBoi what they were looking forward to.
As with last time, I asked all of our guests the same question:
Dumpster Fires of Dumpster Fires
We kicked this episode off with ZBoi and a little recap of what we’d talked with Stoo - which we hadn’t recorded yet - and The_B along with only referring to 2020 as:
[a dumpter fire that was in a dumpster that was on fire] that was shot into the sun, that was in a dumpster that was on fireI think we can all agree that 2020 didn’t live up to anyone’s expectations.
Make sure to check out the full show notes for more discussion on the points we raise, some extra meta-analysis, some out-of-context screen grabs from the movie, and some links to related things.
What are you looking forward to in the next 12 to 18 months? It doesn't have to be related to video games, either. Do you agree with what we had to say about Cyberpunk 2077? Will you be checking out Stoo's new stop? Let us know on Twitter, Facebook, leave a comment on the show notes or try our brand new contact page.

We’ve reached 100 episodes! Seriously, this is an amazing achievement. And as such, I reached out to Internet comedian, podcaster, corn maze enthusiast, and occasional bee impersonator Asterios Kokkinos for comment. Strangely enough, he said that he’d love to be on the show. in fact, his email to us about it read
F*$K YES I WANT IN ON YOUR SHOW
So we had him on, as much for our own enjoyment as for yours, dear listener/reader/person/thing/corporeal entity (delete as appropriate).
Since some people won’t know who Asterios is, I present you with “The Loudest Podcast”. It’s not to everyone’s tastes, but I enjoy it. It’s the right level of madcap insanity for me. And if you’re not into TLP, then I’m convinced that you’ll be into Jacked which is a Cyberpunk pen-and-paper adventure podcast. If you’re interested in the new Cyberpunk game and podcasts then you will be into this!
Because Asterios didn’t have a huge amount of time, we decided to do a whistle-stop tour through some of our segments.

We're 100 episodes into the podcast, and we asked a super special guest to be on the show: Internet Comedian Asterios Kokkinos.
Where are we going on our gondola ride? Why is Asterios confused about why folks are fighting in Dead or Alive? What was Asterios' elevator pitch? You'll have to listen in to find out.
Episode 100 with Special Guest Asterios Kokkinos - drops on January 22nd, 2021. So do subscribe today in order to be the first (and coolest) among your friends to listen to it.

WELCOME TO 2021!
We wanted to kick things off this year with great people, so we brought the following folks back:
We couldn’t fit all six of us into one episode, so we’re splitting the 6 HOUR (!?) conversation into two episodes. Actually we recorded for a sum total of 6 hours, but we’ve edited the conversations down to about 3 hours total.
Why did we do this? Well, firstly there’s a lot of cross over in our conversations. Secondly (and slightly more importantly), these two episodes were actually recorded on four separate dates - with one happening a few scant hours into 2021
Anyway, of the four guests you’re actually only getting two this week:
That isn’t to say that “just” getting those two is in any way an inferior deal, at all. Quite the opposite, in fact. When Squidge was editing this together, he did try for one long cut but it just didn’t flow together nicely.

This is our final episode for 2020, and a cap of our THIRD YEAR (!!) doing the podcast - the first episode was released back in November of 2017. Because it was such an amazing occasion, we wanted to tackle the 1993 disaster: Super Mario Bros.... and that's exactly what we did for episode 98 (98?!) of the podcast
This movie has it all:
I mean, what else could you ask for?

Are you a fan of Super Mario Bros. movie If so, what about it makes it fun to watch? What was with the egg abuse? Did the sex party scene get past your as a kid? What did you think to the "Super Scope as a computer mouse" idea? Would this movie had been better as an animated film? How would you rate it?
psst. we've actually done a bunch of these "goes to the movies" episodes. Check this page to see all of the released specials.

For the end of our THIRD YEAR (!!) doing the podcast - the first episode was released back in November of 2017 - we wanted to tackle the 1994 blockbuster Street Fighter The Movie. but we knew that we wouldn't be able to do it by ourselves, so we drafted in Z-Boi (aka ZackerTheHacker) to help us discuss this movie. And that's exactly what we did.
This movie has it all:
I mean, what else could you ask for?
Make sure to check out the full show notes for more discussion on the points we raise, some extra meta-analysis, some out-of-context screen grabs from the movie, and some links to related things.
Are you a fan of Street Fighter The Movie? If so, what about it makes it fun to watch? What are your theories about the guy in the towel with the gun? Do you agree with our theory about Bison being the good-guy? What was with the lady holding a shoe? Which was your favourite M. Bison hat? Is it ok for Guile to have been as creepy as he was at the end of the movie? And why was there a cosplayers-at-a-con style freeze-frame at the end?
psst. we've actually done a bunch of these "goes to the movies" episodes. Check this page to see all of the released specials.

We sat with John Krikorian (of the Trek Profiles podcast) to talk about EverQuest, and how the communities which come up around MMOs are really what make or break them (John has a wonderful line about "it's about more than the game"). We also talk about how EverQuest is a 20-year-old game, running 20-year-old code. We touch on both the Y2K and 2038 problems, top tips for folks who are new to the game, and some amazing stories from both John and Squidge about the games that they love to play.
This episode is so chocked full of stuff, that I would recommend you check out the full show notes for this episode, as we've added a whole bunch of extra information there. And if you haven't played the game yet, you really should. It's out for practically all formats.
Have you ever played EverQuest? What about other MMOs? If so, what are your favourite MMO titles? Let us know on Twitter, Facebook, leave a comment on the show notes or try our brand new contact page.
