synopsis: In the wake of his parents' tragic deaths, fourteen-year-old
Richard Elauved has been sent to live with his aunt and uncle in the
    remote, insular town
of Ballantyne. Richard quickly earns a reputation as an outcast, and
when a classmate named Tom goes missing, no one believes Richard when he
says the telephone booth out by the edge of the woods sucked Tom into
the receiver. When another classmate disappears,
Richard must find a way to prove his innocence-and preserve his
sanity-as he grapples with the dark magic that is possessing Ballantyne

  • Astronaut Ed Dwight And Director Lisa Cortes From The Documentary The Space Race

    THE SPACE RACE weaves

together the stories of Black astronauts seeking to break the bonds of
social injustice to reach for the stars, including Guion Bluford, Ed Dwight and Charles Bolden, among many others. In THE SPACE RACE,
    directors
Diego Hurtado de Mendoza and Lisa Cortés profile the pioneering Black
pilots, scientists and engineers who joined NASA to serve their country
in space, even as their country failed to achieve equality for them back
on Earth. From 1963, when the assassination
of JFK thwarted Captain Ed Dwight's
quest to reach the moon, to 2020, when the echoes of the civil unrest
sparked by the killing of George Floyd reached the International Space
Station, the story of African Americans at NASA is a tale of world
    events colliding
with the aspirations of uncommon men. The bright dreams of Afrofuturism
become reality in THE SPACE RACE, turning science fiction into science fact and forever redefining what "the right stuff" looks like, giving
us new heroes to celebrate and a fresh history to explore.

  • Les Carroll Releases The Book The Troubled Ground

    The

war in Afghanistan impacted Americans in profound ways, yet only a
small percentage of Americans know what it's like to be there, fight
    there, come home from
there, and then live the rest of their lives wondering if their service
    made a difference.

    This Troubled Ground (Koehler

Books; September 12, 2023) by Les Carroll
goes there-to the cold, dark, and heartbreaking tarmac at Dover Air
Force Base, to the Kabul newsrooms, to briefing rooms, and to the deadly
battlefields in their many forms across Afghanistan. Inspired by true
events, this book follows a haunting, sometimes
uplifting but ultimately tragic journey into war through the eyes of an
Air Force officer searching for meaning as his path intersects with a
mother's desperate quest to find hope after her son is killed serving
with the US Marines in Afghanistan.

    Les

Carroll grew up in South Carolina, served in the Air Force and Air
National Guard for twenty-eight years, and retired in 2013. He served
    two tours in Afghanistan
and one tour at the Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations Center at
Dover Air Force Base. This Troubled Ground was created out of
those experiences. He is an award-winning military and civilian
journalist and acclaimed documentary filmmaker. His documentary Bringing
the Fallen Home aired nationally in 2014. He wrote and published three books in the mid-1990s.

  • The Daily Mess Everything's Moving Except Us

With so many movies all being from the same characters, what would movie life be like if A.I. were given a little room to create? We've been connected to many of today's franchises for nearly thirty years. Not making the big bucks isn't scaring the makers. We've got super hero syndrome.

  • Play It Forward Episode 595 With Sports Journalist David Kindred Releases My Home Team

Thank you for being part of the conversation.  This is Play It Forward.  Real people.

    Real stories.  The struggle to
Play It Forward Episode 595 With Sports Writer David Kindred My Home Team

    The legendary sports journalist

writes about the team that changed his life: the Morton High School Lady
    Potters basketball team.

     Dave Kindred has covered

dozens of Super Bowls and written about stars like Muhammad Ali, Tiger Woods,
and Michael Jordan. But a high-school girls basketball team-the Lady Potters of
Morton, Illinois-stands apart from the rest.

     In this moving and intimate

story, Kindred writes about his rise to professional success and the changes
that brought him back to his hometown late in life. As he dealt with personal
hardship, his urge to write sustained him. For years, he has recapped the games
of the Lady Potters, including their many runs to state championships. He
attended game after game, sitting in the stands and making notes, paid nothing
but Milk Duds. And the team and their community were there for him as he lost a
grandson to addiction and his wife to long-term illness.

     Tender and honest, Kindred's

story reminds readers what sports are really about. He trades in the exhausting
spectacle of Super Bowl Sunday for the joy of togetherness, the fire of
competition, and the inexhaustible hope for victory tomorrow.
