  • Stream Thinking Defeating Dread

Facing your dread. Dread is a sense of uncertainty, a nagging sense of doubt. It leads to panic attacks, stomach sickness and depression. There's even something called dread filled procrastination. They aren't laziness! Each are classified as mental health conditions. Learning to work with dread is a hardcore mission. It's extremely easy to identify but fixing it requires work. We accept being penalized for being late. We face heartbreak and sacrifice family time due to dread. What about those workplace opportunities you keep missing out on? The dread of doing more work. Defeating dread. Meditation and frequency music help relieve the stress. I also journal. De Fragging the things currently dreaded. Asking the questions then questioning the answers. Don't let dread own you.

  • Casting Director Joel Thurm Releases Sex, Drugs And Pilot Season Confessions Of A Casting Director

Joel Thurm's new book SEX, DRUGS and PILOT SEASON: Confessions of a Casting Director (Bear

    Manor
Media) is smart, sardonic, and perhaps best of all: filled with great
dish. One of Hollywood's most admired and accomplished casting
directors, Thurm worked in a business where people were still deep in
the closet. He was the first person in NBC history to
take a same-sex partner as his date to company events. When the AIDS
crisis hit, Joel made every effort possible to get work-any work- for
actors who were ill, so that they could get or keep their health
insurance. You might have seen the recent New
York Post story where Joel shares his experiences with Rock Hudson and Robert Reed.

SEX, DRUGS and PILOT SEASON takes

us on the wild ride of his career from working in the theatre with
legends Pearl Bailey, Judy Garland, Ethel Merman, David Merrick,
and Gloria Swanson to being part of the wise (and sometimes unwise)
early career casting decisions involving Jason Bateman, Tom Cruise, Ted
Danson, Farrah Fawcett, Don Johnson, Regina King, Madonna, Joaquin and
River Phoenix and Susan Sarandon, to name a few.

Thurm played a key role in many of the most pivotal casting decisions in TV history (including Cheers, The Cosby Show, Hill Street Blues, and Taxi)-and

for three enduringly popular movies: Grease, Airplane!, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

In contrast to Hollywood memoirs where the author

attempts to lionize himself and get even with the everyone on the
planet, Joel is a wonderful storyteller who is honest about his success
and failures. Thurm candid about doing his fair
share of drugs in his leisure time and acknowledges instances where
other powerful Hollywood people did employ a casting couch. If Thurm
learned that someone did have a casting couch, he would subsequently
have nothing to do with them.

  • Thomas Haden Church From The Movie AcidMan

    Maggie (Dianna Agron)

arrives at a small, run-down house in the middle of nowhere to find it
defaced by big orange letters reading ACIDMAN and learns that this is
the locals' nickname for her reclusive father (Thomas Haden Church).
    After
a decade apart, Maggie's offhand explanation for her visit is that she
just wanted to check in on him, but this doesn't ring true considering
how difficult he was to find. The two awkwardly want to get to know one
another (Dad seems more comfortable talking
through his dog Migo, or through Bobby, Maggie's childhood sock puppet
friend), but are at the same time scared about what increasing
    familiarity will bring.

    After Dad reluctantly

brings her on one of his nighttime outings, Maggie realizes that his
obsession with UFOs and communicating with extraterrestrial beings has
only intensified over the years. She struggles to understand him, his
    single-mindedness
and deteriorating mental health, all the while with her own
life-changing news to share. Letting their relationship ebb and flow
through anger, silly jokes, tender gestures, and sadness, the film is a
beautiful meditation on the cyclical nature of parenthood
    and the longing for connection.

  • Kelly Yang Releases The Book Finally Seen

    When

ten-year-old Lina Gao steps off the plane in Los Angeles, it’s her
first time in America and the first time seeing her parents and her
little sister in five years! She’s been waiting for this moment every
day while she lived with her grandmother in Beijing, getting teased by
kids at school who called her “left behind girl.” Finally, her parents
are ready for her to join their fabulous life in America! Except, it’s
not exactly like in the postcards: For instance: School’s a lot harder
than she thought. When she mispronounces some words in English on the
first day, she decides she simply won’t talk. Ever again. And her chatty
little sister has no problem with English. She seems to do everything
better than Lina, including knowing exactly the way to her parents’
hearts. They live in an apartment, not a house like in Mom’s letters,
and they owe a lot of back rent from the pandemic. And Mom’s plan to pay
it back sounds more like a hobby than a moneymaker.

    As

she reckons with her hurt, Lina tries to keep a lid on her feelings,
both at home and at school. When her teacher starts facing challenges
for her latest book selection, a book that deeply resonates with Lina,
it will take all of Lina’s courage and resilience to get over her fear
in order to choose a future where she’s finally seen.
