The global ban on travel has paradoxically fueled international collaboration as art practitioners find ways to engage with their peers virtually, and in preparation for the opening up of borders to meet again in person to do more together. We speak with the people who have found innovative ways of expanding their networks to bring new experiences to their local communities.

Nadya speaks with Zaki Jumahri, previously Senior Legal Counsel at the National Heritage Board (Singapore). In this conversation, they discuss the nascent state of art law in Southeast Asia and the importance for everyone in the regional art community – from an artist to a collector – to possess a basic understanding of art law. They go through the steps artists can take to protect their intellectual property, and how collectors can minimise risks when investing in an artwork.

Nadya Wang speaks with Emi Eu, Executive Director of STPI – Creative Workshop & Gallery and Project Director, S.E.A. Focus. They discuss the successful STPI artist residency programme that has welcomed over a hundred artists, the non-profit organisation’s role as part of the Visual Arts Cluster, as well as the upcoming SEA Focus and how it will shine a spotlight on the regional art landscape.

Nadya speaks with Tom Tandio, Fair Director, Art Jakarta, Founder of IndoArtNow Foundation and art collector. In this conversation, they discuss Tom’s journey as an art collector, including his interactions with fellow collectors, as well as why (and how) he collects installation and performance art. They also talk about IndoArtNow Foundation ten years on, and the importance of documenting the work of Indonesian artists. Lastly, they look back at what the refreshed Art Jakarta achieved in 2019, and forward to what the next edition will bring.

Nadya speaks with Patrick Flores, Artistic Director, Singapore Biennale 2019, Professor of Art Studies at the Department of Art Studies at the University of the Philippines and Curator of the Vargas Museum in Manila. In this conversation, they discuss how biennales can both educate and entertain, the simultaneous importance and difficulty of being critical about art in the region, and the need to expand Southeast Asia as a framework in curating and writing.
