In January, Chinese scientists announced they had built a robot nanny to “care” for babies in artificial wombs as a potential solution to their population growth problems. In February, the BBC released a mini-documentary entitled, “What if women never had to give birth again?” featuring egghead experts gleefully celebrating a near future where artificial wombs are the norm and women are freed from gender roles.
