This first episode of the Artinorbit podcast features Vered Brett, a self-taught abstract artist, in a conversation with our host, Sofi Ortegano, a young artist and musical theater student.
Vered is a self-taught abstract artist born and raised in Israel, currently living in Portugal with her husband and 5-year-old boy. Her journey to abstract art was driven by her new role as a mother and a great sense of loss of identity. Always searching and curious, Vered recalled her old passion for painting and rediscovered it after moving to Portugal in 2021. She was selected to an art mentorship programme led by Ty Nathan Clark in 2021. Her first solo show is scheduled for March 2023 in Portugal.
Vered grew up in a religious Jewish home and was often not allowed to explore her passion for art due to religion, nor was she allowed to express herself freely. Her practice is a pure reflection of growing up next to the Mediterranean Sea, and her life today near the Atlantic Ocean. Inspired mainly by Helen Frankenthaler, Zao Wou-Ki, and Clyfford Still, her art explores the depth, complexity and multi-layered stories each one of us carries throughout life. Today she paints as a way to reconnect with who she truly is, and to live life freely in hope that it will inspire others to do the same.
