Yes we actors can be fickle sometimes, we struggel with the rejections after every audition, then when out of the blue we get a major role. Yet we often don't know why and we ask the question why me, better still we play mind games of should I or should I not take this role. Even if the part fits like a glove, but much of this is I believ our getting use to rejection, that when that opportunty comes we are in disbelief.

A an old classmate of mine still couldn't believe that I am still pursuing a career in acting. Yet just because one has aged does not neccessarily means that their dreams should age or stop as well. As long as what they are striving for is what they love doing, Clint Eastwood is near 90 and he shows no sing of slowing down, no he can no longer do the roles he use to, however he can still create characters that are suited for his age. Also here in America one always has the chance, as long as they are alie and well, to reinvent themselves while doing what they love to do.

In this episode I once again explore the value of what we as artist do for and with our societies. How we should value our voice, since we become a condueit for the expression of the people, that our service as artists is not in vain, it is essential and we should savour those expressions.

Oh yes there comes a time after a long journey into the artistic profession, just about every artists as themselves when to throw in the towel. To leave the profession all together and do something that one feels is more lucrative, the problem with that is the question does what you choose feed your soul. Throwing in the towel at those times may seem paractical, but always the question remains will you be happy. Creativity is the essence of the artist that how we see ourselves anything less is tantamount to almost spiritual death. We may indeed go a different route, but it more than likely will be in the creative arena.

Often times many artist give up because the clouds of success is ever fleeting. It is hard when nothing seems to be jelling for you, no auditions, no calls, no reconition for you toil, and even uour colleagues pat on the back is less and less. however it is the power of faith that often times sees us through, our unrelenting belief that our skills, our talent and our shear persaverance will pay off. That ultimite drive that makes us artist wake up each day and put one foot before the other, not knowing but forever believing.

That big break comes as Bill McKay asked in the film 'The Candidate' what know? Success is a two edge sword one never knows what will happen, when suddenly that artist is catipulted to the top, or as Rick James would say  "When you're on the top, there's no place you can really go but down down down. Yet what is success that's always the question and how will it effect us as an artist, because no one, and I mean no one is prepared for success, not even presidents.

The artistic profession is for a lack of a better word fickle, because the nature of the profession itself is at times a matter of "luck." It is fickle because one never knows weher or if that break will ever come, yet artists still put themselves through much agony, only so when they achieve they can feel the pleasure of victory. Yet that to can be fickle.

As artist we often are unable to put a price on our work. Since America doesn't value art, we artist have a hard time putting a money value to what we do. A friend once wanted the caterer he was working for to lessen the price of the food, the caterer respsonded he couldn't do that, because it would cheapen the food. This is how we as artist must react to when dealing with those who don't see are value, that this is not only a profression but it is a buisness, note the word showbiz. We artist must constanly see ourselves as just as professional as a plummer or a doctor, that what we do also is just as valuble.

Reality verses fantasy, this is our dilemma many times, We love the creative expression and how it makes others and us feel, when we are within the throws of it. However reality kicks in just like in the film 'Tootsie', where George is explaining to Michael the reality that we live in the everyday world, you know the one where rent, food etc. and othe essentials are needed to live.

How we as artist discovers our own unique voice and what we do wit it. Yet at the sametime how we can debilitate ourselves with jargons and methods, that we can stifle the ability for our creativity to flow. We have to again rediscover our creative voice.
