This is the eighth in a special series entitled "Later Life, Creative Life", which explores what a creative life looks like in artists ages 60 and up.

From her formative years growing up as the daughter of Eastern European immigrants Sylvia Chave has been creating songs out of the seemingly routine day-to-day occurrences, except she is able to put a whimsical spin on things which is what makes her performances magical and captivating to audiences young and young at heart.  But behind all of those costume changes is a lot of hard work, perseverance, and bubble gump-tion.

During the pandemic, Bruce pivoted from being a celebrated, award-winning Broadway singer/actor to becoming a Registered Psychotherapist (CRPO), Registered Counselling Therapist (NSCCT), and Certified Psychospiritual Therapist. One of the most powerful themes from our conversation is that who you were in your 20s isn’t necessarily who you are now—and that change can be both challenging and profoundly freeing.

Greg Hargarten is a Saskatoon based painter, musician, filmmaker and graphic artist. He is also a founding member of  "The Men Who Paint".  Greg never tires of talking about The Men Who Paint and their global travels, and with good reason.  As painters now in their senior years, it is an enviable position to be in when an artist can say that they make a living from their craft.  He can boast the same when it comes to his solo painting, and work as a musician.

Ken (Skip) Kutz is a renowned Saskatchewan bassist who was one of the most sought after musicians in Western Canada during the 1960s–70s music renaissance. Son of noted bassist Barney Kutz, Skip built a decades-long career playing across Western Canada and beyond—known for his skill, versatility, professionalism, and business savvy that let him earn a living as a musician. Today he focuses on arts advocacy and serves as president of the Saskatoon musicians’ Association. Fun fact: Skip  was the youngest ever member of the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra as a 14 year old cellist and would go on to serve as principal bassist for 40 years!

If this episode were to have a secondary title, it would be "The Emancipation of Betsy Rosenwald." Betsy's choice of the word "emancipation" profoundly reflects this statement. Based in Saskatoon, Betsy Rosenwald is the 2025 Artist-in-Residence at the Ukrainian Museum of Canada, making her the first Jewish artist to hold this prestigious title at the museum. Her latest exhibit, "To Understanding, Through Understanding" (January 29 – May 2, 2026), delves into her exploration of Ukrainian Jewish roots, complementing her longstanding awareness of her Russian Jewish heritage. This exhibit not only deepens her connection to her Jewish heritage but also resonates with her identity in a world marred by increasing antisemitism and political unrest. This episode features Saskatchewan artist Linda Duvall. Over the course of a career spanning four decades, Linda has developed a distinctive art practice. Drawing on her background in sociology and education, as well as her experience living in rural communities, she has created a dynamic practice that situates conversation, collaboration and cultural exchange as both methods and artistic production.  From sitting in a hole, to planting crocuses, and sewing rhubarb leaves.  Everything Linda does is done with purpose and clarity.
