Dormant.
I still remember his eyes
staring up at me from his wheelchair
like huge beacons of despair
rising from his twisted limbs.
There was a hunger there,
for all that I represented
in his crippled view,
strutting by on two strong legs,
my arms carrying books he could
never hold, let alone understand.
Love's sweet possibilities, girls to caress,
worlds to explore and such a bright future,
while he remained just a gargoyle of flesh
strapped to a leather and chrome throne,
that was his tiny kingdom for life.
A thin strand of drool,
graced his bone dry lips,
unable to even quench his own thirst,
he sat waiting for his caretaker,
at lunchtime outside a classroom,
at the school I once attended.
I don't know what became
of that unfortunate young man,
who was born outside the norm,
and forced to dwell amidst the well,
by parents wanting him to have
what all his peers enjoyed
they failed to see that he would be
a boy fate left with just a fork
in a world that peddled soup.
I wish I could have offered him,
the tastes of life I savored,
but I walked on a different plane,
and all his hopes were grounded,
on four wheels that creaked despair.

I like my coffee steaming
and complimented with
that invigorating heat
that brews in your eyes,
your voice sweet and low
as the cream of
your skin entices me.
I'm Chock full of
Nuts about you,
so let's share
just one cup,
and then you'll
be my breakfast...
my coffee-mate,
as we spoon together,
sharing the nectar's
of the gods...
good to the last drop.
A quick pick me up,
on a lazy Sunday morning
that stretches like flesh,
where what's dry blends
with what's warm and wet,
as you stir me
to an awakening,
pouring our passion
over each other,
leaving us are
vacuum sealed
in sweet bliss....
till the last dregs
of desire are drained.
And then we can start the day
in such a lovely way
simply because
I like my coffee steaming

God's Greatest Instruments.
Verse 1
Soon I'll rest in quiet splendor,
with my hair all mottled white,
in a nursing home, all skin and bones,
and hum this song I wrote tonight...
Remembering my younger days,
misspent and free from care,
as I sit alone with a vacant stare
in a ratty old, wheelchair.
Chorus-
Our brains a wondrous organ,
using vocal chords for pipes,
our diaphragm's the bellows
creating melodies we like....
God's perfect instruments that keep,
replaying days we knew,
and entertaining while we sleep,
it keeps tracks on all we do....
It captures all the beauty
and the sorrows that we face,
but unlike P.C.'s or CD's
it will never be erased.

Perhaps there is a reason,
for this vast storage device,
collecting data every day.
both the naughty and the nice.
On judgement day, he'll listen to,
that jukebox in our minds,
and dance with glee at the melodies,
or frown at what he finds.

Like the grandest of conducters,
hearing all that he composed,
will your instrument make angels smile,
or be wickedness exposed.
It will be your first recital,
when you reach those heavenly shores,
we must all be sure, that our work is pure,
something every saint adores.

Epiphany.

I am one of millions
blown by the winds
a dandelion seed
just a weed gone wild
who fell into the crack
of a sidewalk
wedged tight and rootless
my feathery parachute
stuck to something
more concrete
than I'd ever desired.
let the tears of a passing storm
wash me into the soil
that I call chance
and I will burst in
bright greens and yellows
to brighten the
ghetto of my world.
If not then bury
my withered remains
in potters field
until I become clay
that the master
potter above
can reform with love
into a vessel worthy
of holding on to
something far more
than a childish wish
and a puff of
exasperated air.
I am the
unfinished prayer
the sermon still
germinating
an incomplete poem
that wallows in
the cathedral of my skull,
nothing penned
can capture me
until I am freed
from this pathway
to obscurity.

NOTHING FRIGID ABOUT IT !
Let’s head on up to Alaska, Baby
And live in a state of wild,
We’ll light up our igloo
with scented lamp oils
You know I’ve always
loved your candlelit smile…..
Sharing 6 long months of night,
we’ll spoon together
using body warmth,
to beat the weather’s frigid bite.
All of our dinners will have
A seal of approval
Cause they’ll be in
the stews we make,
And we’ll go dog sledding
Sharing hugs and kisses
Over snow and frozen lakes….
And when those
northern lights… fire up the sky,
We’ll don our Eskimo parkas
and enjoy the sight,
Then we’ll look at the stars
Through the hole above
Our cozy little igloo,
Till we make smoking hot love
You’ll be a lot more cuddly
Then you are at home.

and we’ll just spoon together

And he met a lovely Eskimo girl,

till he contracted a bad
case of Sniff-yllis

You could have walked around me
But you bumped into me gently,
it was almost like you planned it,
A collision of two souls,
Loneliness out of control.
You mumbled an apology,
in a voice as sweet as honey,
then I said,” It’s rather funny…
I was hoping we could meet.”
Then I bought you a drink
We had several I think?
Before the night was through,
Then we danced for a while
and I got lost in your smile,
Knowing that I could love you.

I ran into you today
in a most unusual way,
and I'm sorry I did
cause you flipped your lid....
You slammed that door
and you came running at me
yelling so loudly,
with that look on your face
I didn't need to see,
like I was nothing
but I "used " to be something....

Why does love go awry
between a girl and a guy
who have everything,
with no reason why
watching love's flight die
leaving me crippled wings....
I can still feel the sting.
You started yelling,
that I owed you money,
which I thought was
rather funny, Honey
cause I spent so much on you
back before we were through.
So I pulled out my wallet
and gave you ten twenties
I had just got paid,
and you gasped in surprise,
as your mood grew more sunny
from its cold dark shade....
We exchanged phone numbers
like we're supposed to do
and I promised to send you more,
but I had bills that were due.
Then you headed on back
to your dented car,
only glancing back once
with a look that was sad??
and I wondered......
if you were thinking
about all that we'd had?
but perhaps we didn't get that far.....

I have watched men die,
their eyes going vacant,
their lips whispering
of loves or Mom,
it is as if they escape
the flesh cocoon in which
their soul grew wings.
I have seen abuse
on children in trailer parks,
and shabby homes,
big eyes wide with fear,
pure flesh bruised in
dark reminders to
listen carefully
or be beaten.
I have heard the cries of people,
trapped inside a burning car,
all efforts to reach them futile,
my hands singed and
soul melting in despair,
as they barbecued
in a metal incinerator.
I have known loneliness
that drives one to the edge
of a bridge over a long chasm,
to contemplate free-falling
into complete oblivion,
but suddenly realizing
that no girl was
worth dying over.
I was a military policeman,
who saw the ugly side of people,
the dark sides of war,
and the chaos of disorder,
I came away swearing off
its foul taste.
Eventually, I chose
to be an artist,
covering my recollections
with bright colors,
and coming to
the understanding
that afterall I was
forced to witness,
I would much rather
watch paint dry.
You know as you grow older
and the world grows colder
and you watch folks die....
I would much rather
