Adoration
When you have achieved adoration
before thousands of screaming fans
as you dance on the vibes of fate
that brought you to your pinnacle of fame
when a ocean of faces cry your name
and the electric squeals of the guitars
move them in undulation waving as one
pause for a single moment and capture
the feel, and the taste of that multitude of love
breathe it in deeply on that day
for much later comes only the silence
of a satin box and a single face of death
hidden in the soil of man's mortality
and then what you knew as a charmed life
that great adoration that cloaked your world
is forgotten as time erases your essence........
But on a much greater scale
if you simply get the chance to hear
"I wuv you mom, I wuv you too dad!'
from the honeyed, petulant, lips of your babies
wide eyes full of trust, loving only you
hugging a leg tightly and smiling with
perfect miniature porcelain gleams
Savour that moment and cling to it's gift
for you are most truly loved in a bigger way
then all the masses could ever pour upon your soul
and far too soon comes the silence
wrapped around you in death's final grip
clasping you in the airless space
of a mahogany and brass container
that your babies, then grown, will hug
and whisper, " I love you mom, I love you dad.
but your ears will not function
and your eyes sewn shut will not see
the glories of what love bestowed upon you
If we even get the chance at least once
to cause someone to say "I love you."
then we have achieved the adoration
that all were meant to bask in
and so few hang on to long enough
to appreciate the incredible beauty
it adds to life, as well as the ease
with which it helps to lessen your death
when all that is sacred in this world

With regrets my eyes close tightly
knowing when they both reopen
there will only be more emptiness
in view for me.........
not you, my treasured precious one
with that enticing smile
and, eyes that surely would
stop thousands of men
bending towards destruction
and cause them to reflect briefly
underneath the warm intensity
of your most lovely gaze
back to nights when they shared
joyously, in some special encounter
long since buried in the hub-bub
of their ho-hum daily lives
beneath my lids so tightly sealed
I cannot see the shortness
of what is yet to come
when I finally do return your glances
beneath my blinds so snugly pulled
the tears cannot escape
they are trapped as I'm realizing
that I must face so many volumes
of unrequited love poems
yet unwritten
and just one sweet sonnet
on our sharing of loves rhythms
in this century's
first year alone
At night these eyes are shaded
from the glare of one alone
and the pictures of what could be
are rerun in living colors
placing me within the shelter
of your warm, tender embraces

Palms that hold no
life line to you......
Hands are bent
and sometimes broken
nailed as they are
on each protruding end

I can feel them
reaching and
beseeching you
to join them again as
Siamese creatures
melding in the night

words not uttered

form echoes in my soul

over and over each dawn

I practice their litany

unheard by ears that matter

if I could only drape you in

dangling participles

past your silent lobes

letting verbs fall over

and around your head

in satin whispers

and longing stares

as you would then

accompany me on the

cusp of tulips

filled with dew

side by side and

savored with the

soft caresses of

your outstretched hand

replaying those cherished
moments that drew us close

in hopes to catch a line

that will return you

contemplating on how

fingers are what happens

to an arm when it

disagrees with itself

so is love an anagram

of evolve and we are

pre-hysterical

Reflections on loves past.
/////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
....and so I reflect on
love's past and
old haunts that I
spirit Myself away to,
childhood yards, now
empty of houses,
beaches long drained
of tourists where I
once kissed the most
beautiful girl
in the universe,
and then let her
slip like sand
between my fingers,
sidewalks with
finger painted cement
hearts and initials
of loves long since
faded into what ifs,
and gravestones
that mark the places
of those I cherish most
who now lie
in the forbidden poses
of being separated
far too long...
some of my faintest memories
stir me to passions long dormant,
and dreams long thought lost,
and the what ifs??
which are the hooks
in the question marks
that hold me snugly over
a period I can scarcely forget....
For we all breathe
some of the same dust
and regurgitated air
that the great lovers knew,
we gaze upon the same cratered moon,
and count the same stars
as we lie wrapped in
each others arms
after the glow of love
becomes a pilot light
for our hearts,
and we are but
another era of
true loves that
future lovers will
romanticize somewhere
down lovers lanes
not yet traveled.
Love's not yet unraveled
as we become love's history
losing all the mystery
between you and me

just another warm story
never told to any
women or men
just another reflection
on all of my love's past......

Where there's a will there's a way
It's dusk and the highways
roll on endlessly before me
As I ride their undulations
the sunset around me is
intensely unique
When it's all around you
it's a sunsaround In a state that has
no boundaries
like a chariot of flame
the aluminum skin of
my La Saber Gleams
with orange yellow refractions
glowing like a drop of oil
in a puddle of grain water
it's a beautiful late evening
Soon I pass the hometown
of Will Rogers who made his
last exit in a plane
on plains like these
"He never met a man
he didn't like ." heh-heh-heh-
but it might have been fun
to give him a run on that one
for his money
his untarnished image
was then reduced to
movie theater appearances
begging money for charities
all that clever wisdom now gone
his wit was much drier
than the dust of his bones
Passing through Tulsa was a tussle
severe thunderstorms hail and
tornado warnings and a big 18
Wheeler trying hard to......
give me an enema at 80
miles an hour
it's always a trip when
you're on a trip
Oklahoma City lies ahead
and I will be there soon
I can see how a man could
grow to love this state
it's unpredictable with
it's 10 gallon hats
boots scooting boogie
pulled pork barbecued sandwiches
stock yards and a people that are
strong and set in their ways
but not unkind
I will stay here only briefly
but my memories will not
be as brief as my stay
as the highway rolls on
before me as I sail its
concrete surf towards a bed
I paid to keep in a motel
that is cheap for a long
and hard earned sleep
just one of my many
destinations ahead of me
as I take my music
to the masses in between
the bar room glasses
singing out my messages
with hopes they'll be received
and believed so that I can
go home relieved but I'll still
go back again to sail
the concrete rivers all
across the USA
it was what I was born for
in every way and perhaps
I'll see you out there on
some distant day
on some distant day

Morning pops its
platinum blonde head
and sun whitened smile
between the cracks in my curtains
vacuuming the sleep dirt from my eyes.
A screaming white noise pounds
my blanket muffled ears as a
blaring alarm alerts me to its attack
insidious it destroys my dreams in mid-wisp
and drops reality like two feet
hitting the cold floor
drug like it staggers me to that facility
where I can wash off the night
A mirror gleaming in the solar rays
reveals the extent of nights
attack against me
It has mussed my hair
into a tangled tumbleweed
and marched tiny lines across my face
impressions from the sheets left furrowed.
In neat Frankenstein like stitches
teeth coated with yesterday's gluttony
I grimace at the foul chicken breath below
eyes glued at the corners by the Sandman's kiss
I am a refuge from the night
Mourning it's passing
driven from a dream into the
enslavement of the day
I am an immigrant emerging
from a dark country forced
into a shower to meet the
requirements of a civilized world
that assigns me many tasks
I carry excess baggage under my eyes
With my shoulders bent from
the weight of what's to come
I am admitted to another day
just like the day before.....
and the day after tomorrow ........
and all the days and all the years .......
that I will face with joy and fears
but you're still have to get up
every morning and try to repair
what the night's done to you
Tomorrow morning will pop its
platinum blonde head and
sun whitened smile between
the cracks and my curtains
and vacuum the sleep dirt
from my eyes and I will live
to see another day and
I guess that's O.K.

Just like peas in a pod....
A can of beer and a prayer
are very similar in many ways
you need both hands to get started
you open them with great expectations
they give you a bit of
a lift when you are through
they are both filled with the spirit
one is fermented in a yeast that rises
and one rises to the firmanent of heaven
one is a lovely temptation
and one removes temptation in a lovely way
one has a head when poured
and one comes from a
head that's feeling poor
both are forms of worship
one is a sacred drink to the common man
and the other is a sacred think
one can make you higher
and the other is to the maker on high
one is often found in brown glass
and the other is found near stained glass
I am sure there are more similarities
but I am suddenly very thirsty what with
all of this brew talk and spirited blessings
and I am praying that there is still one
can of Molson's left in the back of
my refrigerator cause it's late and all of
the stores are closed on Sundays for beer
It's the lord's day ya know...a time of prayer
thus the only alternative is a Hail Mary
and a glass of milk.....arrrrgggghhhhh!

seems I need to plan
my shopping a little better
perhaps I should pray about it
perhaps I should compare
my shopping habits
to those of somebody
whose practical and
always on time
but I would not in
any way come
close to such a person....
My life is much more simple
I compare beer and a prayer
and I find satisfaction there
and I hope that you do too,
in this silly little tune
that I've sung for you
