wondering if they'll ever know for sure

could he ever forsee
fate would claim him to be

wondering if they'll ever meet again
somewhere in the great beyond?

saying," I love you all, things are fine?"
While the distant guns boomed,
scribbling, "I'll be home soon."
then vanishing for all time

just to lay down a wreath by his side?
it was for you he gave
up his life and his name
and for your country he died

lies a hero to the masses
with a name known but to God

come from miles around to see
this place where the laid
the men who gave all they had
when they died to keep us free

Resin was the lure
that so enticed
this tiny creature,
~
"A Winged Plant-hopper"
~
who just landed
on it thinking
it could leap
with ease again,
into the
prehistoric orange
and turquoise skies.
~
Amber was the
end result
though flawed.
A honey jeweled
sarcophagus to
hold this fragile
corpse so perfectly
preserved for over
several million years.
It left a
living hieroglyphic
that describes
the sad collision
of a life
that we'd have
never known if
nature had not
shed a tear
to catch this
ancient grief
