After 90 days and over 3,500 nautical miles, Arved Fuchs returned to Flensburg today with the Dagmar Aaen from the OCEAN CHANGE 2024 expedition and moored it at its berth in the museum harbour. An expedition full of experiences and intense impressions, during which the crew on board collected a huge amount of marine data, which they are providing to various scientific institutes.

This week, Arved Fuchs sailed round Stadtlandet, Norway's dreaded West Cape, on the Dagmar Aaen. The night before, a replica of a Viking ship from the Faroe Islands had capsized there. Of the international crew of six, only five members were rescued alive and one American woman was found dead.

Arved Fuchs has reached Trondheim with the Dagmar Aaen, where he first had to deal with a leaking fuel injector - a case for which he has made provisions.  Arved Fuchs explains that he has plenty of spare parts on board for the Callesen Diesel and for all other important instruments and equipment so that he can react immediately in such a situation. He was able to replace the defective injection nozzle with a new one this morning.
He also reports on the last leg of the journey, in which they had wind from the front for long stretches and had to motor against the wind, which takes time.

Arved Fuchs has now crossed the Arctic Circle with the Dagmar Aaen, visited the Svartisen Glacier and reached the Lofoten Islands, a group of islands in the north of Norway. In this episode, Arved Fuchs shares his journey with the Dagmar Aaen through Stadthavet, one of the most treacherous sections of the Norwegian coast near the Stadlandet peninsula. This area is notorious for its dangerous cross seas caused by conflicting currents, and it's said that over 50 shipwrecks lie on its seabed.

Due to the perilous nature of this region off Norway's West Cape, the government is planning to build a ship tunnel to make the passage safer, as Arved Fuchs explains in the episode.
