Text for the sermon: John 15:9-17 

God has chosen you – did you know that?  What’s so special about you?  What is your list of accomplishments that entitles you to this great honor?  The truth is, it’s not about what you’ve done or whether you deserve it.  God has chosen you – the good and the not so good aspects of you.  The things you’d put on your LinkedIn page and the things you hesitate to admit even to yourself.  It’s not about you – it’s about God.  It’s all Him.  He chose the imperfect you – that’s how big and immense His love is for you.

Text: 1 John 4:1–21  

Being loved and loving another are subjects of some of the most famous authors, musicians and artists in history.  It a subject that we humans never get tired of hearing and telling. Their works cover the many different meanings of “love” because the word “love” can be used in so many ways:  “I love chocolate”, “I love you”, “I love my friends”, “I love puzzles”, “I love my sister” and “I love my life”.  God wrote about love a lot too in his book:  The Bible.  1 John 4:1-21 is one of the greatest “love” chapters in the Bible.  What sort of love is highlighted in 1 John?
