**Content Warning** I will be talking about Frida's bus accident.  It's a very important event that I didn't want to skip over.  I will be recounting the event and her injuries but I will not be going into great detail or gore.  I have cued you in the video as to the start and stop of that section so you can skip over it easily if you feel like it is something that might bother you.

Today's sleep story is about Ada Lovelace, considered by many to be the first computer programmer.  In this episode, we learn about who Ada's parents were and the "nurture and nature" effect they both had on her.  We also dive into her passion for mathematical engineering and the man and machine who ignited it--Charles Babbage and his Analytical Engine.  Her life's work leaves us with a host of "what if" questions as we imagine the future that Ada and Babbage could have ushered into existence...

Did you know the most successful pirate in history was a Chinese sex worker-turned-pirate captain?  At her height in the early 1800's, her fleet was upwards of 8,000 ships and 50,000--80,000 crew members!    

In our historical sleep story tonight, we learn all about pirate Ching Shih and how she went from rags to riches and lived to tell the tale into old age.

Tonight's sleep story is about Prima Ballerina Misty Copeland of American Ballet Theater!

ASMR triggers include close whispering throughout, mouth sounds, scratching, tapping, fabric sounds and we spend a nice bit of time playing with pointe shoe sounds and learning the parts of the shoe and the sounds they make.

Happy Presidents' Day to listeners in the States!  

Even though we don't technically have a female president *yet*, we are celebrating Vice President Kamala Harris, who is the first female, and also the first Black American and first South Asian American to hold the office of Vice President.   

So just who is Kamala Harris and what was her road to Vice President?  In this week's sleep story, we will learn about her upbringing with immigrant parents, her law career and her path to becoming Vice President of the United States--along with her long list of "firsts."  Unlike the previous weeks' stories, I omitted extra ASMR triggers in the background and opted for some water and white noise sounds in the background.  Let me know what you think! I'm just trying to find nice combinations of sounds :-)

Happy Women and Girls in Science Day!  

I have an extra story for you this week about Katherine Johnson, NASA research mathematician.   Her calculations allowed astronauts to enter space for the first time, walk the moon for the first time and get home safely when things went wrong.  She was a brilliant woman with many "firsts" and we are celebrating her on Women and Girls in Science Day during Black History Month.  

This video includes soft-spoken storytelling, occasional close whispers, soft tapping, lid sounds, mic brushing with makeup brushes, and hairbrush bristle clicking.

Welcome back! 

Tonight's story takes us back to the mid-1800s in the landscape of the mountains, deserts and valleys of the Great Basin of the United States.  Sarah Winnemucca was an indigenous woman of the Northern Paiute Nation who fought for the human rights of her people.  She spoke directly to Congress and educated the general public about her tribe and what life was REALLY like on the reservations.  She is also considered the first Native American woman to have published a book, which was her autobiography Life among the Piutes: Their Wrongs and Claims.

This story was already prepared prior to this month but we'll be back to celebrating Black women during Black History Month later this week in an extra episode!

I've got a BONUS episode for you today to celebrate AS(Fem)R's first day and, more importantly, the first day of Black History Month here in the United States.  Ida B. Wells is a very interesting woman who dedicated her life to equality, justice and to fight the terrorist practice of lynching.  

I've included a trigger warning at the beginning of this episode due to the racial violence that will be discussed.  While there won't be any details of the crime, mention of a lynching as well as frequent use of the word "lynch" will be a part of our story tonight.  Listen at your own discretion.
