We seldom ask ourselves, “Does this work make me feel fulfilled? Does it align with who I am, what I want to do, and how I want to express myself to the world?” As Asians, most of us focus on making money. We think that having money will solve all our problems. Dee Gupta was born in India, grew up in Africa, and has been in US for 11 years now. She studied engineering and went on to become a programmer at Microsoft for about ten years. She realized that her upbringing and environment had given her the dream of working at Microsoft, but that it wasn’t truly her own. She spent years figuring out what her true calling was. She attended many conferences, seminars and workshops, watched lots of videos, read lots of books, and finally realized that she wanted to explore human emotions and find a way to help people live peaceful, happy, joyful and loving lives. Learn about her transformation story as she switched her life path, left her job, and became a full time life coach.

Her career in the financial services industry spans nearly twenty years in the area of data management and analytics, strategic analysis and marketing analysis. She has worked for Providian Bank, Charles Schwab Corporation, and recently reached her five-year work anniversary at Bank of the West as a data analyst. From the outside, her life looks picture-perfect, but Darlene shares growing up in her household was pure survival. Growing up in a very traditional Chinese culture, she had to deeply suppress her real self and mute her true voice and preferences. However, that upbringing actually formed the core of who she is, which is of tenacity, patience, self-expression, and the constant pursuit of empowerment, to be able to step outside and have a global view of things.

Until you look at your life from outside, you would not be able to tell where those dreams and desires came from. The most effective way of looking at yourself from the outside is by working with a life coach, someone who is trained to help you see your blind spots, to help you align with your core values, and to help you achieve the things that are important to you. The next best way to look at yourself from the outside is by meditation and reflection on yourself on daily basis. It might take longer, but it can take you there. Lisa K.Y. Wong’s story of growing up will show exactly why she does what she does now, and why she is so passionate to teach other moms and children on self-care as she launches the Climb Every Mountain Self-Care Movement globally.
