Ask Ed Lover: Deb from Elmwood [Thrifty boyfriend or ASSHOLE?]

Dear Ed Lover, my boyfriend of two years has made a habit out of using my birthdays and holidays as an opportunity to upgrade HIS lifestyle and I have been faking as if I love his gifts, but it’s starting to get old. For my b-day, he recently gifted me his old laptop. He spent money getting it upgraded and cleaned for me, but last month he bought himself the latest MacBook Air. For Christmas, he gave me a pair of Jordan’s that were a half size smaller than my shoe size and I found out after the fact he got them for his sister who didn’t want them. I always end up with his hand me downs that I don’t even need or ask for. Does he just suck and self-centered or am I being ungrateful?! He has money, he just doesn’t spend it on me when it comes to gift giving.
