In this episode, I respond to a question from an anonymous listener who writes:
āHey Kyira, I could really use some perspective on something thatās been weighing on me. Lately, Iāve been feeling like Iām always disappointing my partner because Iām hardly ever in the mood for sex.
Itās not that I donāt care about them or that Iām not attracted to them ā I do. But it feels like no matter how much I try to psych myself up or convince myself itāll be fine, I just canāt get there. By the time the day is over, Iām totally drained, and the idea of being intimate feels overwhelming instead of connecting.
Iām usually a pretty energetic person, so itās confusing to feel this shut down in this one area. And every time I say no, I end up carrying so much guilt and this nagging thought that Iām failing somehow. How do I even start to understand whatās going on here and stop feeling like Iām letting them down all the time?ā
We explore why desire can feel so elusive ā even in relationships filled with love ā and how shame and exhaustion can make it harder to connect. Inside this episode, weāll talk about:
If youāve ever felt like youāre carrying the weight of sexual expectations you canāt meet, this episode is for you.
