I have been working with schools for over 20 years. I see what schools and educators do to make a difference in the lives of their students, families, and communities. I want to give a special shout-out to teachers in the Red Bluff Union Elementary School District for the work they do day in and day out. My guest on the show today is Claudia Salvestrin, Assistant Superintendent for Red Bluff Union Elementary School District.

I recently posted a question on FaceBook. The question was, “What have you been learning about your kids since we have been on stay-at-home orders?” I got 65 responses right away. The responses reminded me of just how much I appreciate educators.  

My relationship with Red Bluff Union Elementary School District started with a call from Claudia Salvestrin, Assistant Superintendent. We decided to partner together for a back-to-school workshop with all of the educators in the district. 

One of the main focuses of that workshop was the idea of responding versus reacting. Reacting is our instant, knee-jerk reaction to an event. Usually, a reaction is not pleasant or well-thought-out. But responding is a thoughtful reply to an event. When we respond to an event or situation, we usually make a better choice. 

When the COVID-19 stay-at-home orders started, Red Bluff Union Elementary School District educators responded amazingly. Their teamwork shined through when they took ownership of the situation. They took the time to respond in a clear and concise way. They showed up and worked together to serve their families and the community.
