The Holidays between Thanksgiving and New Year historically is a period of increased mental health episodes of depression, anxiety, and PTSD. While pre holiday preparation or coaching on how to survive the Holidays is one avenue. Another avenue is to understand the WHY of mental health episodes during this time and having alternative options for the holidays like volunteering, vacation, or a friendsgiving.
Deborah Shanley recently shared on surviving sexual violence from her Dad from ages 12-19 and how impacted her relationship both with her faith who was religious Christian and family. Deborah is not alone. Women are severely depressed, Sui ci dal, experiencing PMDD, PTSD, etc because of this trauma. We cannot sugarcoat that and sweep it under a rug with cute affirmations.
