ASMR Bedtime Stories episodes

  • Snow, Glass, Apples - By Neil Gaiman

This episode features another short story by Neil Gaiman from his short story compilation "Smoke and Mirrors". Snow, Glass, Apples is Neil Gaiman's take on the classic fairy tale Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, but with dark twists and turns.  It has been marked 'explict' because of some sexual content not suitable for young listeners, but hopefully adult listeners will enjoy it nonetheless!

The only catch is, this episode will only be available for a limited time and will come down on May 31st! If you'd like to listen to it, now's your chance. You can also listen to Levar Burton read some of Neil Gaiman's works on his podcast Levar Burton Reads, so head over there to hear him read if you'd like!

  • Short Poems by Thomas Moore

Thomas Moore was an Irish poet, songwriter, singer, and entertainer in the early/mid 1800s. I've always loved his works so I thought I should read some of them to you! If you would like to hear more poems, please let me know - I have a ton of them!

The poems read on this podcast include The Ring, an entry Moore made into a "Book of Follies", and birthday poems Moore wrote to various friends among others. I hope you enjoy them!

  • Short Stories by Neil Gaiman

This episode is a little special! Neil Gaiman and Harper Collins have wonderfully allowed folks to read his stories out loud for others to listen to during the pandemic, so I've recorded a few from his short story compilation "Smoke and Mirrors" to share with you. I've got more of his works, so I'm looking forward to reading more of them to you over the next few weeks!

The only catch is, this episode will only be available for a limited time and will come down on May 31st! If you'd like to listen to it, now's your chance. • Gargantua and Pantagruel Ch. 4-6, Francois Rabelais

This episode, I read the next three chapters from Gargantua and Pantagruel, book one, to you. It is an explicit episode, so please be aware of that before you listen! I also muddle my way through some difficult words (how do you pronounce ambriguembrangle?) and try to speak a little church Latin, so I hope you've forgive any blunders I make!

  • Scenes in the Life of an Old Armchair Ch. 1-2 - Mrs. O. F. Walton

This episode covers the first two chapters of the book "Scenes in the Life of an Old Armchair" which was originally published in 1917. It's such a sweet book written from the perspective of an armchair living vicariously through the people in its life and has always warmed my heart when I read it. I hope that it brings joy and warmth to your heart as well! An added bonus for this episode are some sweet kitten purrs and soft snoring from my lovely pets. I hope you find it relaxing!

They very much enjoy sitting on my lap while I read to you. I originally found this book at an antique shop in Wichita Falls and have loved reading it time and again since. It seems fitting that this book is as well worn as the armchair it's about! Anyway, I hope you enjoy this out of the way find as much as I do. May it bring a bit of peace and comfort to you in these difficult times.

  • Fireside Stories for Girls - Margaret W. Eggleston

This episode is a little special to me - the bedtime stories I read in this episode come from an old book that my Great Grandmother gave to me about 10 years ago. She's getting ready to have her 100th birthday this year so I thought I would read something that meant a lot to both of us at one time! The book is a little over 100 years old itself so I apologize if the content hasn't aged well!

Some of the themes are very heavy handed, but I hope that my reading relaxes you nonetheless. I'm looking forward to reading more old book that I have at home to you in the coming months!
