Assata Shakur, a former member of the Black Liberation Army, has died in Cuba at 78. Shakur was convicted in the 1973 murder of a New Jersey state trooper, escaped prison in 1979, and fled to Cuba, where she was granted political asylum. Her decades as a fugitive made her one of the FBI’s most wanted figures, with a $2 million reward for her capture. Cuban authorities said she died in Havana of health complications and old age.
