Aaron Gross, professor of theology and religious studies at the University of San Diego, joined the "At the Edge of It All' team to dive deeper into what we're seeing in the American food industry, such as factory farming and dishonest food labels being used to market seemingly healthier products. Gross also shared how he, alongside a group of USD professors, just launched The Center for Food Systems Transformation. The center aims to educate the public about our food systems and empower individuals to make informed choices for themselves and their communities.

Lorri Sulpizio, director of the Conscious Leadership Academy at the University of San Diego, joined the "At the Edge of it All" podcast to discuss her journey to help athletes, women and teams become better leaders. Sulpizio also shares how self reflection can be one of the first approaches, amongst others, to find your voice and strength as a leader.

Laura Rivard, Teaching Professor and Outreach Coordinator for the Sciences at the University of San Diego, joined the "At the Edge of it All" team to share how an early love for biology led her into a teaching career where she shares her excitement for science. Rivard also breaks down research that shows the importance of keeping science exciting for kids at an early age and tips for making science fun at home or in school.

Rachel Blaser, professor of neuroscience, cognition and behavior at USD, sat down with the "At the Edge of it All Team" to break down how our brains learn new information like a language or a new skill - and how it compares to the ways bees or other animals learn. Blaser also shares how her latest research will use virtual reality technology to determine if a decline in spatial cognition could showcase the early signs of Alzheimer's disease.

Darren Kew, dean of the Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies, joined the "At the Edge of it All" team to talk about his personal journey into the field of human rights and conflict resolution. He also discusses the vital role of peace studies programs in today’s world, highlighting how education can pave the way for resolving conflicts and fostering understanding across cultures. Plus, he gives us a glimpse into his vision for the future of the Kroc School as the new dean.

Casey Dominguez, chair of the department of political science and international relations, joined the "At the Edge of it All" team to discuss the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination process that led to Kamala Harris' nomination, and the historical context behind it. Dominguez also offers tips on how to become a more knowledgeable voter.

Karen Ortiz-Becerra isn’t your average economics professor. On “At the Edge of It All” she talked about how she uses economic concepts — which can often seem abstract — to practically improve people’s lives and address inequities. She talks about her childhood in Colombia, and how that inspired her work, and about a high-tech project in Ghana aimed at bringing modern healthcare to people in rural communities.

This week, “At the Edge of It All” was joined by Razel Milo, an associate professor of nursing and a family nurse practitioner. Dr. Milo was recently awarded a $500,000 grant to fund her research on improving mental health treatment in the Filipino community. Milo talked to us about immigrating to the U.S. as a teen, and the pressure she felt to help her family members navigate the healthcare system. For example, how do basic healthcare terms translate to Tagalog? She explained some of the challenges immigrants and non-native English speakers face in that regard, and how she’s working to improve access for everyone.

Linda Barkacs, professor of business law, joined “At the Edge of It All” to talk about employment law. She shared some of the most memorable cases from her prolific, decades-long career. Barkacs explained what we can learn from those cases about harassment in the workplace and other issues, and why it’s so important to fight for workers’ rights and safety.
