“Process over outcome.” In this AthMindset episode, Lisa Bonta Sumii, LCSW, CSW, shares space with Chris Meadows, coach, trainer, and basketball mind. He has helped over a thousand athletes develop into collegiate athletes.
Chris Meadows speaks the truth in this episode on these topics and more:
More about Chris Meadows:
“Coach Chris Meadows is one of the most highly respected Skills Performance Coaches both nationally and internationally. As a student-athlete, he started his college journey in his hometown of Phoenix, Arizona at South Mountain Community College, where he helped transform the program and lead them to their first ever post-season appearance. Coach Chris received a scholarship to play basketball at St. Bonaventure University where he earned his B.A. in Elementary Education and later his M. Ed. in Special Education. Upon graduation, Coach Chris immediately committed to the principles that shaped him as a young man, by “investing into the lives of those who are to come.”
Coach Chris’s Player Development and coaching career started in the small community of Jamestown, New York, where he resurrected many of the life lessons that shaped his mindset and poured them into the players of Western New York and Pennsylvania. It was there that he started the travel program, Western New York Shooting Stars. Developing a Mindset that would focus on “maximizing your potential” was always a priority for Coach Chris. This mindset was able to transform his players into talents that would go on to elevate their style of play and eventually earn college scholarships.
Upon relocating to Charlotte, North Carolina, Coach Chris hit the ground running and would establish the renowned MOMENTUM SKILLS ACADEMY (MSA), which elevated player development in the Carolinas in the mid 2000’s. MSA brought players from around the country and as far away as Europe and South America. He would also impact the travel basketball landscape by coaching and training with boys’ programs Team United and Team Charlotte as well as girls’ programs, NC Spartans, WP Celtics, ASGR Select, and FBC. Coach Chris would go on to win multiple National Showcase Championships.
After many successful years of developing what he calls, the D-1 Mindset and elevating the skills of basketball players, Coach Chris decided to expand his reach and began to work with national organizations to share his formula with players from around the country as well as internationally. He would work with the ASGR brand in the role of Director of Player Development for the TOP TEN ALL-AMERICAN CAMP, SELECT 60, Co-Founder for Play Maker University, Show & Prove, Co-Director G3 Hoops, Wooten McDonald’s All- American Camp and conduct NBA Pre-Draft Development Sessions. Coach Chris has played a role in developing over 1000 Division 1 basketball players, 12 McDonald’s All-Americans, and multiple NBA, WNBA & foreign professional basketball players.
As the co-author of I AM D-1: How to Conquer the World of Travel Basketball, Coach Chris’s mission is to empower the world of rising basketball players and their families by sharing the keys of the D-1 MINDSET.” (source)

FanWord founder, Chris Aumueller, joins the podcast to talk about athlete branding. Chris excelled in tennis at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and he now helps other athletes tell their stories and create their own brands. Chris’s goals surpass athletics and help to foster personal development in the lives of many athletes. This company’s goal is not only to help achieve an athlete’s financial goals but to also empower them to advocate for themselves.
Chris persistently refers to the topic of education and its importance in the NIL world. Through this conversation, light is shed on this topic. The goal of FanWord is to add value to athletes’ lives through partnership. Chris believes that building a brand is more valuable to a company than athletics. He also believes that every athlete has not just one story, but “1,000 stories”. Helping athletes communicate those stories in an authentic manner is Chris’s passion.
Chris has always had an entrepreneurial mind and that has served him well in his pursuit of success. He has created a program that works for the athlete. This program is accessible to any athlete, not just the star player. Chris says he “wanted to build something inclusive”. He aims to position his athletes for greatness. The human experience goes beyond the court or field, and that is what keeps audiences tuned in.

Teresa Brown shares space with Lisa Bonta Sumii in this episode of SportsEpreneur for a candid discussion about mental health–specifically struggles related to body dysmorphia. She is a high-performing powerlifter, and she also works as an elementary school teacher. Her passion for the sport and for teaching truly shines through in her voice.
A major topic covered in this episode that we want to bring attention to:
“female athlete triad” | A combination of disordered eating, amenorrhea, and osteoporosis, commonly seen in adolescent and young adult female athletes.
Teresa is open about her struggles with body dysmorphia related to her sport and she is a proponent of therapy. She acknowledges the “line between living your life and also recognizing that [she] wanted to compete at the highest level possible” (13:57). Once entering the powerlifting arena, she was “absolutely addicted from day one” (6:52). She found a community around powerlifting and gained a sense of fulfillment in the competition atmosphere. She believes that we need to “recognize our bodies for what they are able to do and perform for us” (8:52). Teresa makes real connections in this episode with her unfiltered honesty.
Teresa has overcome body dysmorphia and physical injuries throughout the course of her career. She was able to accept the fact that she needed more than just the sport and that it could not be her “everything” (34:09). She has always been able to bounce back and pursue her passions despite obstacles. “Our stories in life impact our purpose and our passion” (26:58) and these stories deserve to be told.

Doing your life’s work. And doing it with passion. While changing lives in the process. That sums up what Stephanie Rosado does.
In this AthMindset episode, Lisa Bonta Sumii, LCSW, CSW, shares space with Stephanie Rosado, a Ph.D. student at the University of South Florida (USF). A former pro basketball player, Stephanie played for the Puerto Rico National Team where she contributed to Puerto Rico’s first Gold Medal in the 2010 Centrobasket Caribbean Games where she score 19 points and had 10 Rebounds.
As Stephanie describes herself on her LinkedIn profile:
Stephanie is a Ph.D. student at the University of South Florida (USF) School of Social Work and a Certified Wellness & Health Coach (CWHC). She started her doctoral journey after a diverse background of professional experiences: being a retired professional athlete and working as a licensed social work supervisor in a child welfare agency in Philadelphia. She recently finished serving two consecutive terms as an executive committee member for the Alliance of Social Workers in Sports (ASWIS) and remains involved with several of the organization’s sport social work efforts and projects. These diverse projects embody sport social work as they focus on the intersection of sports and social work practice, athlete wellbeing through a social work lens, and sport for development (locally and globally).
Stephanie’s research interests involve young adult populations diagnosed with osteoarthritis (OA), the disease’s biopsychosocial impact, and research that focuses on advancing the field of sport social work. During the summer of 2021, she was a panelist for an osteoarthritis drug development workshop co-sponsored by the FDA and the Arthritis Foundation.
Stephanie is a member of the Florida Education Fund’s McKnight Doctoral Fellowship (MDF) program representing the only social work graduate student in her fellowship cohort. Since the MDF is a Florida-wide fellowship, Stephanie founded a monthly support group for USF fellows to build a sense of community among this diverse fellowship of Black/Hispanic doctoral students on campus. She is also an ambassador for the Arthritis Foundation and has volunteered for several of its community events.
