Review of FX's Atlanta, and this week in season 2 episode 7 "Champagne Papi" Van is having a girls' night at on this NYE at Drake's mansion on a mission to get herself a picture with Drizzy for the gram. This episode starts off with a pretty long discussion bout the development of Van's Journey this season and if she's lacking selfhood. Phenomblak, MsMusiclover, Twanburgandy and Xmike make sure to cover it all in detail with a bonus discussion their own club experiences all thanks to Donald Glover's.
Any episode that follows up the Teddy Perkins episode was bound to get hard watch, but this episode while not as suspenseful was just as vocal when speaking to corners of the Black millennial Diaspora that we as viewers may have not been aware of or relate with. Van has a focus and a mission and in the end is robbed of the reality of her goals and the whole adventure of this New Year's Eve night. She's also robbed of expectations. She also robs Drake. Nadine is robbed of comfort and ground disposition with a side of level headedness. Tami is robbed of another Black man, and Candice is just fake. She's robbed herself of realness.
