Hello and welcome back to The Comedy Cast; today we’ll be hearing from a new, up-and-coming Scottish stand-up comedian, Gary Faulds.

Gary’s passion for comedy is nothing but infectious, after the interview I felt like I could take on the world while giving it a big hug at the same time. I don’t know if it’s because he’s new to comedy and still all starry-eyed with wonder and confidence but I loved chatting to him. I don’t for a second really think that though, he’s just a mega fellow, very funny and a really sound man.

We had a chat about his life before comedy, his time in the British Army and returning to Glasgow to man the family business.

We then speak about his interesting family history, which has seen him plastered across Scottish tabloids. He speaks frankly about it, his father and his stepdad. It just goes to show that we don’t have to follow paths laid out in front of us and we can make our own choices.

Of course we natter about his comedy, his influences growing up and why he got into the dog-eat-dog world of stand-up comedy.

Welcome back to The Comedy Cast; today you’re going to be hearing from an English stand-up comedian, Tom Ward.

We had a chat about how and why Tom got into the cut-throat world of stand-up comedy. We also spoke about his undying love for music and his previous time playing in bands in England.

We also spoke about how the comed down of having a successful Edinburgh Fringe Festival show can leave you both mentally and physically drained and in need of a bit of a hug.

His beloved Southampton FC also gets a mention in our True/Falso Challenge.

Tom’s still pretty new to the world of comedy but he’s already making waves and has been winning over audiences to his unique style of comedy since he started out. His observational humour is really top class and the way he mixes bizarre observations of the mundanity of modern life really cracks me up, be that his jokes on boiling water, his three favourite types of silence, or his ex-girlfriend’s fringe, his live act is something special and Tom Ward is destined for greatness. Of that I have no doubt.

Tim’s being doing stand-up comedy for a few years now and is the kind of guy that uses his talents in many areas, including: acting, art, voice acting, broadcasting, sketch and of course, stand-up comedy.

Welcomed back to The Comedy Cast; today you’ll be hearing from Irish comedian Robbie Bonham.

Robbie will be well-known to anyone that follows the Irish comedy scene, he’s been gigging for many years now and is renowned for his honesty and his dealing with personal issues while on stage.

This was a real education for me; to speak to a comedian in a time of real transition, as someone who has to deal yet again with alcoholism, relationship difficulties and depression, while also re-entering education as an adult and trying to re-find his place in comedy.

Robbie’s a bit of a hero of mine as you’ll hear in the podcast and I wish him well for the future and I hope that we can speak again on the podcast because I feel he has a lot more to say regarding comedy and I strongly feel that his comedic talents have been somewhat overlooked in Ireland, but hopefully in the years to come he’ll finally get the recognition and praise he deserves.

Today you’ll be hearing from one of Scotland’s most hotly-tipped comedians, Jamie MacDonald. Hello and welcome back to The Comedy Cast.

Jamie’s a Glasgow man who’s pretty new to comedy, only starting a couple of years ago, something we can thank the global recession for. We have a chat about his former banking career and how he didn’t really like it, actually he didn’t like it at all.

When we spoke Jamie had just come back from a really successful stint at the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

We also nattered about who his comedic influences were growing up and who they are now as well.

We spoke too about how and why he got into comedy, what it’s like to be labelled a British sex symbol and recent the Scottish Independence referendum and Brexit for a mention too, as did his new puppy who kindly took a dump while we were recording.

We have a very special episode today the current President of the Lafta Republic; President Obonjo.

Hello and welcome back to The Comedy Cast.

President Obonjo is an outrageously-funny character developed by Benjamin Bello, we had a great laugh together for the interview with some of it being done in character.

We spoke about Benjamin’s comedy career and about how it all came together when he came up with the character of President Obonjo of the Lafka Republic. We also chatted about his influences and why he got into comedy in the first place.

The we spoke too about being an emigrant in the UK and how that has had an effect on both his career and character, what he misses from Nigeria and how he stays in touch with his culture.

We had a wee natter about the President’s plans for world domination and close with the question; what the worst piece of advice he could give new stand-up comedians.

Hello and welcome back to The Comedy Cast; Today you’ll be hearing from an American stand-up comedian, Karen Rontowski.

Had a great laugh with Karen, not only about comedy, but also about what she likes to do in her spare time; reading tarot cards and ghost hunting.

So we had a great chat about reading tarot cards and even said that my kid probably sees ghosts when he stares into space. Karen has ghost hunted all over the world too so we had a wee talk about that.

Of course, we also have a chat about comedy; why and how Karen got into the business. We spoke too her influences and the comedic influences in her house when she was growing up.

I quizzed Karen about the American phenomenon of clean comedy and how American stand-up comedians have to be able to change between both frequently. Finally then, we speak about her appearance on the David Letterman show and our usual True/False Challenge.

Hello and welcomed back to The Comedy Cast; Today you’re going to be hearing from Rahul Kohli, a man who isn’t afraid to go where most comedian are. A comedian who made a big slash at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe festival.

When we spoke, Rahul had just come back from a very successful stint at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. So of course we had to have a chat about that.

We also talked about Brext, and not giving a fuck about it and the mood in Britain since the referendum.

Then we spoke about growing up the son of emigrants in Newcastle, why his parents chose Newcastle and how Newcastle holds a special place in his heart.

We had a natter about political correctness and how its real meaning has been lost over the last few year. What I love most about Rahul’s comedy is his fearlessness in tackling ‘difficult’ subjects so we had to tackle that subject too.

We had wee chat about the state of the England football team too and we finished off with our True/False Challenge.

Rahul was fiercely interesting and his stand-up is nothing short of brilliant, I really hope we’ll be seeing a lot more of him on stage and on TV in the future.
