What makes a sequel a sequel? Usually, it continues the story of the previous film, includes connecting characters, or exists in the same cinematic universe.

Not all sequels follow these rules. Sometimes they’re sequels by title only. We’re talking sequels that aren’t really sequels with House II: The Second Story, Slumber Party Massacre 2, and 10 Cloverfield Lane.
