  • History In Your Home: Peter Eaton and the Legacy of the Dubord Americana Collection

Americana takes center stage in our latest episode as we celebrate the Dubords’ remarkable legacy and explore the enduring beauty of Maine’s heritage.

Elizabeth McLeod sets the scene for the upcoming auction of The Americana Collection of the Larry and Jean Dubord Estate with a trip to Wiscasset, where she sits down for an illuminating and wide-ranging conversation on the history of American Country Furniture with noted historian, lecturer, and dealer Peter Eaton.

    About Peter Eaton

Peter holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees in American history. He is past president of the New Hampshire Antiques Dealers' Association, past president and Chairman of the Ethics Committee of the Antiques Dealers' Association of America, and most recently served as Director of Standards for American Furniture for the Antiques Council. He has written about and lectured on American furniture in forums including Antique Collecting Magazine, New England Antiques Journal, The Maine Antique Digest, The 2008 American Antiques Show Catalog, Antiques and Fine Art, and Olde Sturbridge Village.

Peter specializes in New England furniture made between 1650 and 1820, with a particular emphasis on William and Mary, country Queen Anne, and Federal period furniture from eastern Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Connecticut River Valley. Peter has maintained an open shop continuously since the fall of 1970, with an emphasis on form and surface, buying and selling pieces that reflect the aesthetic judgement and skill of the maker—and that retain their structural and surface integrity.
