안녕하세요 여러분. 선현우입니다. 지난 일주일, 즐겁게 보내셨나요?

다음 주는 한국의 무슨 명절인지 아시나요? 네, 우선, 한국에서는 두 가지 달력을 사용하죠. 하나는 양력, 그리고 다른 하나는 음력입니다. 보통, 날짜는 양력으로 계산하지만, 한국의 전통 명절은 음력으로 계산합니다. 그리고 옛날에는 생일도 음력으로 계산했었는데요. 그래서 제 생일은 양력이지만, 저희 엄마, 아빠, 그리고 할머니의 생일은 음력입니다.

음력으로 8월 15일은 한국의 아주 중요한 명절인 추석, 네, 추석입니다. 가을이 오고, 새로운 곡식이 수확되는 것을 축하하는 명절이에요. 추석이 되면, 가족들과 아무리 멀리 떨어져 살아도, 아무리 바빠도, 꼭 가족이 모두 함께 한 곳에 모입니다. 다음 주 화요일이 바로 그 추석인데요, 그래서 저도 다음 주에 광주에 가서 부모님과 함께 보낼 계획입니다.

그런데 이번 추석은 정말 좋아요. 왜냐하면, 월요일, 화요일, 수요일이 추석 연휴인데, 바로 앞에 토요일과 일요일이 있으니까요. 그리고 목요일에 수업이 있는 선생님들이 "여러분, 추석 때 멀리까지 갔다 오면 수업하기 힘들죠? 목요일은 휴강 합시다."라고 해 주시면? 하하하. 토, 일, 월, 화, 수, 목, 6일 동안 휴일을 즐길 수가 있답니다.

추석 때는 기차나 버스를 타고 가족을 만나러 가는 사람이 많기 때문에, 기차표나 버스표를 구하기가 힘들어요. 앗! 그러고 보니까, 저도 아직 표를 못 샀는데... 집에 가서 부모님을 만나려면, 지금 빨리 표를 사러 가야 하겠습니다.

자, 그럼 다음 주에 뵙겠습니다. 감사합니다.

"저기요, 광주 가는 표 한 장 주세요. 예? 없어요? 아, 안 되는데! 집에 가야 되는데..."

Hello everyone, this is Hyunwoo Sun. Did you have a pleasant week?

Do you know what traditional festival it is in Korea next week? Yes, first of all, in Korea we use two types of calendars. One is the solar calendar, and the other is the lunar calendar. Usually, the dates are calculated using the solar calendar, but the traditional festivals are calculated using the lunar calendar. And in the past, birthdays were calculated using the lunar calendar as well. So my birthday follows the solar calendar, but the birthdays of my mother, father, and grandmother follow the lunar calendar.

August 15 of the lunar calendar is a very important traditional festival of Korea, Chuseok. It's a festival for celebrating the Autumn and the harvesting of the crops. When Chuseok comes around, no matter how far away from your family you're living, no matter how busy you are, everyone in the family gets together in one place. Next Tuesday is that very day, Chuseok. So I'm planning to visit Gwangju and spend time with my parents too.

By the way, this Chuseok is great. Because Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are the consecutive days off for Chuseok, and we have Saturday and Sunday right before that! And if the teachers who have classes on Thursday say "Everyone, it will be difficult to come to school to take classes after your long trips on Chuseok, right? Let's have next Thursday off." Hahaha, I can enjoy my holiday starting from Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, to Thursday. That's six days!!

A lot of people take the train or the bus to go see their family on Chuseok, so it's difficult to get a train ticket or a bus ticket. Oh, come to think of it, I haven't got a ticket yet... If I want to go home and see my parents, I guess I will have to hurry up and go buy a ticket now.

"Excuse me, one ticket for Gwangju, please. What? There aren't any left? Oh no! I've got to go home!"
