Dorothy Freed has been involved in the BDSM scene since the 1970s. In this memoir she writes openly, nostalgically, and lyrically about exploring her sexuality, including her experiences as a submissive and a Domme in a decades-long committed D/s relationship. This collection of interlinked vignettes gives the reader a front row seat to her diverse kinky adventures, providing sexually charged anecdotes that shed light on BDSM and her observations and reflections about the lifestyle. It is laced with humor, warmth, and rich descriptions of San Francisco and The Scene as it progressed over many years. It’s a celebration that proves that you’re never too old for passion.

BEHIND THE SCENES DURING THE BUILDING OF THE PANAMA CANAL
Undaunted by a mysterious disease killing workers, Teddy Roosevelt stakes his presidency on building the Panama Canal.
The day Teddy Roosevelt learned McKinley had died and he was now president of the United States, he made up his mind he would cut a canal through the Isthmus of Panama. No small task. The French had tried and failed with more than twenty thousand dead. Roosevelt wasn’t alone in wanting to see a canal. The Wall Street financier, J. P. Morgan, wanted it too, and so did revolutionaries in Panama. Morgan wanted a shorter route for his ships and was willing to secretly finance the insurrection against Colombia, who owned the territory of Panama. Not everyone was wild about America in Panama. A radical young patriot with ancestral roots going back 400 years would do anything to stop the Yankees, including murder. There was another more insidious obstacle, a mysterious disease killing workers.
The president sends Colonel Goethals to Panama to direct construction. Goethals thinks he knows how to avoid the terrible landslides that ruined the French. He also sends Major William Gorgas, the epidemiologist that rid Cuba of yellow fever during the Spanish American war. Gorgas requests the support of Captain Garrett Hay, the Secretary of State’s nephew, who served in Cuba as a doctor. Gorgas also wants to send a civilian scientist, Hiram Walker, who is married to Emma, Garrett’s former much younger lover, who deserted him years earlier without a word. They meet again aboard the Athena on their way to Panama. Neither is quite sure whether their love affair is over.

HANGING FEVER WITH SMOKE WADE’S NECK SLATED FOR THE NOOSE
Dakota Territory: 1885. A violent band of Civil War veterans who roamed the Badlands were roused from their restless inertia by the murder of the Colonel they idolized. The towns simmered and hatreds flared up anew and every stranger became suspect.
Since Smoke Wade was a stranger, when he stepped out of the hotel a dozen tough and sullen men were waiting for him. They followed him down the dusty street like a pack of hungry dogs stalking a young deer. Someone in their midst spoke the word. "Murderer." The word became a chant, a chant that seemed to sweep through the town. Hanging fever had come to the Dakota Territory!
Before long Smoke Wade paced a jail cell . . . listening to the angry rumbling of the mob outside. He had suspected it before, but now he was sure—someone was heating up that mob, trying to make sure he didn't leave his cell alive.
He remembered how he had ridden into this boomtown, a stranger with an itch to follow the wild wind, a simple cowboy with too much nerve and a ready gun. He had tried to help a man in a fight, and the next thing he knew he was in a cell, with a hangman's noose awaiting him.
Why? For the murder of a man he had never even heard of, a murder that had occurred two days before Smoke Wade had come to town!
As he listened to the bloodthirsty cries outside, his anger grew, He vowed to get out of there, clear his name and pin the guilt where it belonged.
Up to then, there had never been a horse Smoke Wade couldn't ride or a man he couldn't lick — but this time he’d have to fight a whole damn town!
the side of justice when the powdersmoke settled.

The Sword of Fire: A Novel of an Enslaved World by Emmett McDowell. He was a plain, ordinary Jones, so his spaceman father named him Jupiter, hoping it would help him stand out. Then Jupiter Jones cursed the fate that had marooned him among the planet's groveling mutants. He only wanted to escape. But the mutant's rising excited whispers proclaimed him a knight in shining armor who alone could save them. And the strange sword he'd found was, they said, the one weapon that could prevail against the vicious octopoids who enslaved them.
The Rocketeers Have Shaggy Ears: A Novel of Peril on Alien Worlds by Keith Bennett. Their fighting song was known from Terra's hinterlands to Ganymede's glittering domes. "Oh, the Rocketeers have shaggy ears. They're dirty sons of space!" Someday there will be a legend like this. Someday, from Steamy Venus or Arid Mars, the shaking, awe-struck words will come whispering back to us, building the picture of a glory so great that our throats will choke with pride.
