If we are honest, we have to say: as humanity we have achieved an enormous amount. In the past decades alone, our technology has developed tremendously, medically we have achieved breakthroughs and we have reached an unprecedented level of resilience, at least globally. We are able to do tremendous things like fly to the moon, move entire mountains, etc. And yet, as individuals, we remain very vulnerable. I suspect that each of us knows moments of disappointed hope. That can be very painful, it can even break people inside. In all our outwardly impressive development, we remain highly vulnerable on the inside. Against this background, I was all the more moved by something I read the other day: a prophet in the Old Testament, his name was Zechariah. In a translation of his writing, it says in the 9th chapter "your hope will not be disappointed". How powerful, how comforting, how calming, reassuring. That is what I wish for you today.
