Once we establish a healthy habit, it can be exhilarating. We can be so proud of ourselves, see it as a significant accomplishment, and feel attached to our new routine or habit. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a very positive thing to be attached to your efforts. But what happens when you have to change your routine for some unforeseen circumstance? What happens when you no longer have that devoted time to run, work out, eat more healthily, sleep more soundly, or pray and meditate like you were doing? A day goes by, a week… Then you are reflecting, and that negative inner voice tells you, "You suck!” and “You couldn’t keep it up, loser!” We all go through this at some point. We fail to reach our goals, and then we get down on ourselves to the point where we just start again. Give yourself a fucking break. We are all human and human circumstances arrive and interrupt. It happens. Don’t turn an interruption in your stride into a stumbling block and turn a molehill into a mountain. “Rub some dirt on it, and get back in there,” as my favorite coach might say.
