Who could forget the euphoria of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games?

It was the year that Cathy Freeman lit the Olympic cauldron,  and with it the spirit of a nation, before storming home to win gold in the 400 metres.

It was also the year that North and South Korea marched together under a single flag, and the Games that IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch famously declared "the best Olympic Games ever".
