The fifth Coen Brothers film is also their largest in scale to date. In this conversation, we mostly agree with the critics and culture from the time in thinking that bigger doesn't always mean better. There is a lot to love in this movie though, and certainly a deeper dive into the themes that the Coen's are constantly exploring. the circular metaphor and symbolism is front and center.

Ian, Travis, and Chris continue their journey into the films of the Coen Brothers. Barton Fink presents them with the challenging concept of The Life of The Mind. we do our best to navigate how much of this exploration is deep metaphor, and how much is simply a palette for them to enjoy their craft. We all agree, John Goodman and John Turturro are in top form.

this was a conversation we had after recording the "Raising Arizona" episode. the three of us dive into what we like about movies as an art form in general and whether it's still the culture driving art form it once was. also, we debate whether it ever was or if it was a good thing when it was. It was a conversation we loved having so we decided to share it with you here as a bonus. Hope you enjoy!

Ian, Travis and Chris talk about the second and most manic of all of the Coen Brothers movies: raising Arizona. We dive into their complete tonal shift and how it resulted in one of the best comedies of the 80's and possibly all time. we also discuss where it fits into their filmography and how it stands apart from the rest of their filmography.
