Writing about serious subjects | How to Turn Trauma Into True Storytelling

📚 Have you found yourself writing about difficult topics—abuse, trauma, loss, grief, and the like—and then wondered if you should keep going? Maybe you struggled with difficult feelings while writing, or worried that such a story wouldn't find its place on the market. Or maybe you wrote about trauma you yourself faced, but then didn't know how to make it into a publishable novel.

In this video, Colleen M. Story talks about her new book, "The Beached Ones," and some of the difficult subjects she explored in the story. She examines how writing can bring up unexpected feelings, and how fear can play a role in both finishing the story and seeking a publisher. Finally, she has tips for writers on how to determine whether your story is best suited for therapy or publication—and why both are valuable.
